Louis, how is WW a 70% for you? Explain.
  • Maverix%s's Photo

The standard on what is 100% will continue to rise like it does with everything else.  Just look at how many video games and movies come out that get 10/10 or 5 star reviews or whatever.  At the time they were released people thought they were perfect, until something more perfect came along and beat it.

Any way now time for my review (hopefully this will make sense).

First of all, congrats on finishing this thing Rob.  I had my doubts but thankfully you decided that the best way to finish this wasn't to constantly stream it, but to go run away and hide as you tidy up the last bits and pieces of this park.  That being said it was always a blast to watch you stream and see what goes through your head when you build and how you build and I hope you do more of it in the future (looking at you, boardwalk woody).  Finishing something this big is an achievement of itself but the fact this is as good as it is makes it that much more special.

    Istanbul:

This is possibly my favorite area of the park, so many little things that just scream Busch Gardens but do so in a way that is all it's own and very clear that this is another park in the chain and not just you copying what you found on the internet.  The ticket booths and entrance archway are just magnificent in this regard, then add in the awnings and supporting architecture and this thing oozes Busch atmosphere.  Moving further into the area, I love the strollers made with the GCI trains, thought that was a cleaver little touch rather than just plopping down a sign on a building.

    Southeast Asia:

Where the heck is my 1% for the rapids hack :p

But seriously, those rapids are right up there with Starpointe's as my favorite of all time.  Great layout, and you themed it perfectly.  You also nailed the large version of the twist ride and are making me consider going back over the one I have in Knox (I actually tried to steal you design but don't tell anybody).  I love, love, love the building underneath Naga's drop, that roof is perfect.  Speaking of Naga, the parks 'centerpiece' is fantastic, very true to the older Arrow designs.  I do wish you could've done the tacky tunnel around the helix but that darn object limit :(  The supports on the ride are fantastic tho, easily some of the best Arrow supports this sight has seen.

    Japan:

Shinobi <3 I'm a sucker for these multi-launch rides and I love how you combined Cheetah Hunt, Verbolten and Manta into one.  The support work on the tower of the ride is spot on and really adds to this thing being the centerpiece of the area.  However, the rest of the Japan area not around Shinobi I felt was the weakest area of the park.  It seems sort of cramped and unfinished, tho this is the only real let down I have with the park.

    India:

This area has Jagganath there for this is best area.

Ignoring the fact that the area as a whole is great, Jagganath is the best invert I've seen and one of the best coaster I've seen on this sight if not the best.  You jokingly said it was the only reason you wanted to finish the park but I wouldn't blame you if it wasn't a joke, the ride is that damn good and deserves to win design inside this park.

    Tibet:

Those new trains on Garuda look soooooo sexy.  Definitely one of the best dive machines ever made even tho the layout is rather plain, you nailed all the little features of this type of coaster.  The flying carpet ride may be my favorite custom flat in the park too, so well done.  The atmosphere in this area was amazing as well, possibly the best in the park, so colorful.

    China:

You really did a great job with Fenghang, although it almost feels to modern B&M compared to what year you have it open but it's a great ride regardless.  Love the use of wood coaster track to look like catwalk for trim brakes.  My favorite building in the area was the theater, don't know why but I just love the facade to it, looks fantastic.  Throwing the kids area into this too you did a great job pulling off a Busch kids area.  Maybe a touch to colorful, but to so much that it wasn't believable.  Love the dragon slide!

    Some final remarks.

Again, super happy so see you finish this Rob and I can't wait to see what you decide to build next.  That being said, I felt like you could've taken just a bit more time to make sure some obvious missing pieces were still there.  A couple random missing objects can take away from a whole area and that cost you when looking at overall atmosphere.  I know the object limit is tough to deal with but there are better ways to deal with it than just random right clicking :p

Overall I gave this a 95%, so close to being perfect for me.  Great job Rob.

  • mintliqueur%s's Photo

Definitely a worthy spotlight! And definitely worth the wait! Although I have to say I'm with the people thinking the score is inflated (I'd stop at 95, for any park... I don't think anything could be 100% to 100%, so to speak). Even so, I feel this park deserves the spot as the top-rated park. Anyway, let's not dwell on that.

This park is amazing, very immersive. It just feels real when you look at it, take a snap shot of any part of the park and you can feel standing there on the path. Few RCT parks accomplishes that for me. In particular Tibet with the flags is incredibly lifelike. The best part has got to be the architecture. It's incredibly detailed and believable. There has been quite a bit of very good, realistic East Asian architecture the past couple of years, but this park probably takes the cake, not least because there's so much of it and it's so consistently well done. It's great how you've managed to capture the regional differences from Japan to China to Southeast Asia.

And of course the coaster layouts are fantastic too. Great use of diagonals to break up the grid and enhance realism. My personal favorite has got to be Naga as I have a soft spot for vintage coasters. It's possibly the best old-school Arrow we've seen.

Speaking of diagonals, I really like the way you've made diagonal slopes on the paths! I can't remember noticing that anywhere else and again, it really enhances the realism.

Last but not least, the overview is really pleasing to the eye. And a very clever choice to theme the entrance area to Istanbul!

If nothing can be 100/100, why is it a choice? That makes no sense.
  • geewhzz%s's Photo
Typical 4 corners and a lake park. 0/100. Start over.
  • RCT2day%s's Photo

Liam summed up my thoughts perfectly. I'd give it a 90% and "yes," but it's not the best park of all time for me (that'd be Starpointe, I think).  Definitely deserves a high score and the spotlight, but not that 98%.

  • mintliqueur%s's Photo

If nothing can be 100/100, why is it a choice? That makes no sense.

Well yeah, good point. Speaking for myself, the choice makes a lot of sense for individual screens, I just have a hard time imagining a park where there isn't at least some little part that, from some angle, I don't care for as much as the rest... This park comes close but it's not it. I doubt anything would be it, for me. But I never meant to say that a 100% park is somehow objectively impossible, certainly not. :) It's obviously a matter not only of opinion, but also of what meaning one gives the "100%" vote... Perhaps I've inflated the value of that score in my mind?

On the other hand, the total score for this park isn't 100%, so the system seems to be working. Or not working, depending on one's point of view... Anyway I'll shut up now :)

  • PizzaWurscht%s's Photo

The park has all my expectations exceeded 20,000 times.

    I dont think it was a 100, but it's like a 97 so I rounded up.

  • G Force%s's Photo

I don't know if a park has ever had me so conflicted.

In many ways, all of the pieces are perfect.  The coasters, especially Jagannath, are some of the best of all time.  Maybe with the exception of Feghuang, this is the greatest collection of coasters a park has ever seen in realistic RCT.  To me its not so much the layouts, which are very good, but the surroundings and attention to detail not only in supports but catwalks, backstage, placement, interaction etc...  Not sure if I could ever ask for more in an RCT2 park.

Naga is my favorite of the group, but its so hard for me to decide between it and Jagannath, both are, again, possibly the best coasters of their type ever.  Which is saying a lot as they are probably the two most poplar coaster types in RCT.  The supporting on Naga is probably my favorite aspect, in conjunction with the placement and surroundings its all anyone could ask for.  If anything my least favorite part is the station roof as it doesn't really match the rest, but you justified it with the readme and history.  100%

Jagannath, well not sure how you were able to pull this off so flawlessly.  Layout wise, its believably puts it on par with Alpy and Montu, which is incredibility difficult to do.  Again, supports are essentially flawless, a huge improvement from BTR or almost any other Invert on NE.  Placement once again is perfect, and surroundings are once again, perfect.  Only ding on the ride is it lacks some degree of theming compared to the other Busch Inverts, and some of the backstage around the ride is a little unfinished.  98%

Garuda, its no slouch either, perfect supporting and perfect layout.  The station, queue, splashdown, and surroundings are 99% there.  Just a shame the new trains created some clipping issues on the turnaround, otherwise this would once again possibly be perfect.  Really love the attention to detail with the terrain and fencing here, stuff a lot of people take for granted.  Also good to see the trains used anyways, a lot better than the default IMO, but they feel a little big for the coaster, which I guess is the same IRL.  95%

Shinobi, while not perfect, is still very good, the layout is definitely the strongest aspect here, the soundings don't quite live up to the standard set by the rest of the park here.  Might be due to the obj limit, which is something I can't hold again you.  The top hat and facade of the indoor section were top notch though, some of my favorite aspects of the park.  80%

Probably my least favorite is Feghuang, while a good coaster on its own, feels a little forced and rushed here.  Seems to just be placed there to fill space, without really adding to the park as a whole other than to give the park a definite #1 ride.  There seemed to be some missing objects here around the station and in the supports.  Again there is nothing you can do here, but overall, the coaster just seemed a little rushed and not as well planed, which I guess seems to be the case.  70%

One of my favorite aspects of this park is how it feels like a layout of a more classic spotlight, with the different themed areas and colors schemes almost being on their own islands, but with a more realistic and modern believably.

Istanbul - Well this might just be my favorite entrance area in the past 5-7 years, the exterior being the highlight here in my opinion.  Superb dealing and placement, probably the most immersive part of the park for me.  Overall this are has the best architecture, I especially love the domes and restaurant and area overlooking the lake.  Also love the entrance sign you added to "Battering Ram", it along with the canvas coverings really tie the area together and make it feel much more Busch.  95%

Southeast Aisa - Quite possibly the best themed area ever in RCT2 or ever?  Well its not quite as good as the Daft Punk section of WOMB for me, but its in the same league.  Everything in this area was so well done, amazing rapids, great architecture, great flume, flats, stadium, and not to forget Naga.  Without question the most "Busch" feeling section, and a true joy to look at.  Some slight errors with missing objects and things of that nature, but easy to forget when you look at everything else.  98%

Definitely the best content in the park is on this side of the lake, as good as you can get over here.

India - Once again, a great area, perhaps a bit too small for my liking, but none the less very well made and awesome to see the Tiger exhibit done so well.  I just love the architecture and carousel especially.  Very well integrated with the coaster in my opinion.  Just a shame it is so small really, only thing that I can dislike about it, other than possibly the scale of the green building right behind the cobra roll.  Overall: 90%

Tibet - This might be where the park begins to fall apart a little for me, again, nearly perfect architecture and placement and rides etc...  Really loved the lamps, flags and 1k ruins here as well, added a lot to the atmosphere and believably.  However, I dont like how the Mandala isn't working, when it probably would have been a 10 minute fix at the max.  Also seems to be a little bit of unfinished here in the architecture and path, plus the entrance hut to Lasha Loop was unfinished.  Some missing tables and umbrella supports as well, which again would have been easy fixes.  However, as a hole a great ride lineup and atmosphere made a big difference.   Overall: 85%

China - There is a lot to like here, I feel like a broken record, but the architecture here is just great.  I especially enjoyed the animal exhibit and Teacups ride.  The Splash Boats, and like I've said Fenghuang aren't your best work.  The splash boats, while very well build could have used more color and some additional foliage or gardens.  Kind of made the area feel really empty as a whole because of this.  The area did feel a little unfinished as a whole as well compared to the other areas I've talked about so far.  But again, I know the object limit put you in a hard place here.  As far as the Sesame Street area goes, well I'll just call that a necessary evil, I'll try my best to ignore it.  Overall: 78%

Japan - Well, this could of been really great, but yea I know object limit etc...  The area just felt really dead and dull to me, the integration of the coaster was great but lead to sloppy execution and little atmosphere.  Maybe it was just the source material, but overall not much I truly enjoyed (as much as the other areas) other than the coaster here.  Overall: 73%

Its hard to really give this park anything less than a 90%.  The accomplishment as a whole along with the persistence and risks taken are really commendable.  Building a park like this and finishing it over 4+ years is something very few people could do.  I'd wish you would stop building yourself into a hole though, taking on this hyper detailed architecture.  While its what you enjoy building, I do think focusing a tiny bit more on things like "streetmosphere" and the smaller aspects of parkmaking as a whole.  Something a bit less ambitious and detailed could help you enjoy the game a bit more and feel more inspired.  It seems like this park suffers a bit in the parkmaking realm, all the pieces are there they just aren't quite connected all that well.  Not sure why, but this and SFSF seem to suffer a lot on finishing details, which its really the only part of your game that's missing.  Putting in 100% effort on project all the way to the end, making sure the park finished as well as it starts.  This is probably the most difficult and enjoyable part of parkmaking though and almost everyone had a hard time with it.  Maybe try something a bit less ambitious in the future?, but who am I to tell you how to play the game.

So yea, all the pieces are there, just not polished and strung together as well as it could have been.  I'd give the park a 90%, and have it ranked 12th on my modern parks list. True greatness, and perhaps even more impressive your second spotlight in an era where they have become even more difficult to obtain.  This definitely puts you among Natelox, CP6, J K, Fatha', and Turtle as the greatest of all time.

Rob, I'm very glad you decided to do a hyper realistic theme park. That's where it's at. Far better than any of these hyper realistic parks without a theme. This is truly stunning although it does feel a bit barren at times. I guess that might be due to the object limit that I heard you had hit but I'm not sure. Overall with the planning, the park layout, the ride layouts, the theme choice, the details, the architecture this is clearly one of the greatest rct parks ever. For me this does BY FAR more than for example Starpointe or Watkins Woods or whatever other somewhat recent park made everyone go crazy. I'd put this up there with Zippo's which is a personal favorite of mine as perhaps the greatest realistic theme park on NE. Congrats for finishing. Congrats for showing this dedication. One more thing: I would've loved to see a Persian or a Russian theme and therefore one less Eastern Asian area. But that's my only input I can really give you. The execution of what you chose to build is near perfect for me. I'd have voted 95% on this. Awesome job!

  • Chocotopian%s's Photo

I didn't get round to voting in time, but I think I might've been one of the lower votes at 90%. Undoubtedly this park is fantastic, and I echo many of the others' thoughts here regarding its rides, theming, ideas, detailing and its overall cohesion. But for me, there were two main things that cost it the final 10%, both regarding viewability:

At times, there were parts of the park that I struggled to view, either because they were blocked or because the micro-detailing, I felt, became overwhelming. By blocking, I mean that I would want to view a façade of a building at a different angle or at least in its entirety, but was unable to do so because of trees, other buildings etc. obscuring it (and I'm loath to delete parts others' parks). Naturally this echoes realism, as parks are designed to be viewed from a visitor's perspective, but I felt it detracted from the viewing experience as a gamer. At times, I thought "Why create such beauty and then hide it away?" A little more space or breathing room would've created much more opportunity to show off your talent and display your designs in their full glory, and I'm sure you would be able to pull this off without detriment to atmosphere or realism. Of course, this is all down to personal preference, and I'm sure many other NEers enjoyed the jam-packed, almost hidden treasure style that you've adopted here. Just sorry to say it didn't quite do it for me.

Regarding micro-detailing, I couldn't help but feel a little lost when looking at some buildings and areas. On occasions, it took me some time to distinguish between wall, roof, trim, awning, second trim, window etc., all on the same structure, simply because there was so much to see and so little space to see it in. Again, this is a preference (and perhaps an inexperienced eye on my part), but I truly believe that sacrificing a few superfluous details would've cleared many buildings up and allowed you to handle the object limit easier. The forms, functions and beauty of the buildings were already there that you didn't need to bury them all with deco.

Apologies if this all sounds negative, but let me reiterate that this is regarding the 10% I wasn't keen on. For as much as I've put here, there was nine times as much that I thought was phenomenal. You are an extremely talented builder and this park - and the comments from everyone else - shows it. As said, it was just these issues that held it back from perfection for me.

  • csw%s's Photo

well perhaps I'll take a look at this one

    Edit:

Your best work yet, robbo. The thing that made this great was that it was all so well-detailed, but it had room to breathe. Nice open grass patches, not cluttered and crowded like a lot of the realistic parks can get. Plus Jagganath is a bomb coaster.

    would've voted 95 yes.

Without a doubt a NE Spotlight and one of the top parks the site has seen. Overall I really enjoyed it, but there were some things that I was disappointed by too.

    I liked...

+ The entry area had a great vibe and the BG feel. I love the stroller rental shop and small dome flare building.
+ All the coasters had great layouts. Despite how old it is, Jagannath is still my favorite, but Sanobi and Garuda are also sick.
+ The landscaping was outstanding throughout. The parts around the hyper are my favorite.
+ The realistic details and the backstage areas were well thoughtout. A simple, yet awesome custom lift on Fenghuang. I love transfer bays on coasters and this park did a great job with them. Also love the special supports over the transfers on Naga.
+ All of the custom flats looked really good.

    I didn't like...

    - BJTREE7 just does not look right in RCT, looks like it's zoomed out when it's not.
    - Where are the clydesdales?
    - 0 wooden coasters, or maybe one if we count both the water rides?!
    - Lack of hacking detail... we can see lots of floating yellow scrolling Q entries and supports glitch through on quite a few paths. The game's default stations are visible on a lot of key rides. Even if custom flats cannot move you can still have a working Q.
    - China just seemed too simple and stood out as a weak area, but I did really like the dragon in the kiddie area. It was the lone area that didn't meet spotlight standards.
    - Big buildings with default rides was a little weak, but yeah that object limit was likely the reason for that.
    - The rapids ride's architecture was awesome, but the themeing was pretty generic and something I feel I have seen too many times with brown rocks/ruins.

    - No frozen staff... I know... I am a frozen staff whore, but I really don't get why since DAW it's not more frequently used. It adds a lot when you can scroll over a frozen staff member and get some extra Easter eggs.

Overall it's an outstanding park and a worthy NE Spotlight, just I don't think it was a true step forward in parkmaking and a spotlight should be. 98% is a staggering AP score, but I think the community score (currently 94%) is more accurate. My own vote would have been a 90/yes, but an 85/yes if the object limit was not an issue.

I would not rank it above RoB or DAW, but it's clearly one of the most solid overall parks at the site. I would have loved to see you take more time to perfect it.

    - 0 wooden coasters, or maybe one if we count both the water rides?!

This might be the most pointless "criticism" ever, because as of right now, there is no wooden coaster operating in Busch Gardens, or in the chain, that runs it.

  • Faas%s's Photo

Let me start of by saying congratulations on the spotlight Robbie, always an awesome achievement.

This is definately not my style of park, therefore I would never have given it near the score that it has gotten, I would have probably given 80-85% to be honest, so I guess you're lucky I'm not in the accolade panel anymore :p

However I do think it is getting a bit tiring that every park (look at Westwinds as well) has people bitching over why it did or didn't deserve the score it did. 98% is crazy, but if six people vote it 100%, that's what you get.

I also think our German RCT2 cult should find a way to express their opinions without sounding like jealous, elitist douchebags. You're always making it sound like the world is so unfair and nobody really gets it on this site, and to be honest, no one cares.

I personally thought most areas where a bit too dark, possibly because of the path choices, so that's why the Japanese area was my favourite. To me, it also felt too unfinished. It looks a bit weird when you spent so much time on small details, but forget about fences and leave entire areas blank, if you know what I mean.

I hope for this community that you keep building stuff, because people seem to love what you do. I'm not really a fan of your work, but that doesn't mean this is not an admirable achievement.
