Through The Ages - Round 3 Voting

    Logo by J K

    Round 3 Graphic
Round 3 - The Age Of Exploration

    1400 - 1600

Set sail for uncharted waters and distant shores. In Round 3, you'll design a park inspired by the Age of Exploration — a time when brave navigators crossed vast oceans to discover new lands and cultures. From the New World to the spice routes of the East Indies, from Portuguese trading posts in Japan to Magellan's circumnavigation of the globe, the world was being mapped and connected like never before. Chart your course and bring this era of discovery to life.
    Objectives
    • Your park must be set between the years 1400 and 1600, or themed to that era.

    • Your park must feature a port or dock in a recently explored location. This could include the New World, Portuguese exploration in Japan/China, the Indian Ocean, Magellan's expedition, or other Age of Exploration destinations.

    • Your park must include a prominent tracked water ride.

    Voting

Before voting, please ensure you have viewed all entries below. The first question asks you to evaluate which park or parks have met the above Objectives the best. The second question asks you to choose the park or parks with the highest Quality. You may vote for multiple parks in each question. The poll will be closed in approximately 72 hours, after which the total vote for each park will calculated and the park with the highest number of votes will be declared the winner of the round, granting its creator(s) entry to the Grand Final.

AJ's Alamo Expo AJ Remember the Alamo, Honey! The Alamo Expo combines hundreds of years of Texas exploration. Across the park researchers, archeologists, divas, shopkeepers, and wildlife experts are all sharing an afternoon by the Alamo. Layers of history sit under the modern day park. The first forts were built in the 1500s, old ships and treasure are being recovered!
Bocas Del Tero Jens J. (95%) and J K (5%) In 1502, Christopher Columbus embarks on his fourth and final transatlantic expedition. During this voyage, he arrives at the shores of Bocas Del Toro, which we now know as a place in the far land that is Panama. Bocas del Toro is inhabited by the "NE-gäbe" tribe, a group of inhabitants now known for their expertise in OpenRCT2. They're living their best lives in a village filled with huts, pots and… a launched water coaster? Join Captain Columbus and his crew on the discovery of this mysterious place. Who knows what this place has in store for you!
Memories of Mauritius Kumba (50%) and deanosrs (50%) The island of Mauritius was first settled in 1598 by Europeans and did not have a native population - except for the diverse wildlife of dodos, parrots and monkeys. Over the years it became a popular port for trade and eventually pirates came. The island has an incredible and unique landscape with caves, mountains, exotic sands and even the illusion of an underwater waterfall.

Some quick early thoughts. All three great entries. Well done! They all have points in which they shine.

Panama was narratively the strongest imo. Mauritius had the best rides, although I'm a sucker for heartline coasters. Alamo had the best soundtrack.

    Going by the objectives:
I liked most how Panama was actually set in this era.

Mauritius being a gorgeous port was my favorite interpretation of the second prompt.

Lastly I liked the water ride in Mauritus best as well. It was fun to explore the map through that ride.

    AJ's Alamo Expo

To my tastes at least, the AJ-TTA quality has ramped up round by round. This is the best yet for sure. The colors pop nicely, I especially like the roto drop reflecting the palette of the park.

Double decker log flume is great, and the boardwalk exploration is lovely. So many underwater details to look at there and lovely crunch across the map.

My fav spot was the scuba divers diving on a wreck by the beach.

    Bocas Del Toro

Perfectly Jens! The ride itself has a great flow to it. I love how your landscaping flows in shapes and colors. The bullrush usage looked great to me. The tree selection is really on point too. A lesser talked about Jens-trademark is the transparent sign to form various shapes and symbols. Always a unique look! The last one I spotted was the treetop walkway over the water ride before the station.

Loved my guest shoutout - minideano 2 is usually the well behaved one so never a good day when he goes missing!

The River Styx shoestringed flatride was lovely too, great to see multiple maps give the CHE-trees a great workaround this round.

When I think of jens I think of killer landscaping and hella immersion! The lush jungle is sooo nice! The pop of colors in the flowers and butterflies is gorge. The cave detailing and shadow is so cool. Plus the whole shore is done well. The furry in the woods is funny af. All the peep scenes along the shore are great. I also love all the peeps from the boat showing them seeing the new land for the first time. The farm areas are cute, and how is that poor scarecrow :( i hope he earns a living wage. I also dont think Ill be able to help that poor man hanging from the track! I think the waters deep enough for him to let go. Hope theres no piranhas.  The big boats are done well too!

The buildings around the park are all cohesive and look great. The ropes course and charaqui slides (?) are my favortie bit of archi. The station for the Quibian water coaster is dope, love the rotation platform.  I love how the two splash downs sync up every now and then. The launch is such a good choice! The alpine coaster is my fav ride in the park tho, it looks great!

As far as the contest goes this is a great solid entry! Its really giving age of exploration. I think the port/ dock aspect is a little more subtle, the indigenous canoe dolls! I love it. Its giving new world realness. I love jens rct!

    Kumba and Deanosrs

Holy cow this is such a fun map to explore! There's probably as much as you could possibly due in one month! I love how well utilized the landscape is. The waterfalls go from top to bottom and the peeps, the rides, and the paths interact so well with the terrain. Even the caves are FULL of scenes. I <3 bats!  The caves are absolutely my favorite bit of landscaping, especially the scene with the lift and josh! Im also really impressed with all the peep scenes! I do them with scenery mostly, i needa start naming them like yall did! I like how steve is in danger! LOL. I like how im the bouncer too.

Now this is a ton of archi! I am so scared of buildings. I love the lower fort the most. The stage sunk down is so COOL i wanna play a bassoon recital there. The view of the lift and the zipline just adds so much. Cmon peep sight lines! All these boats look peek too, all mine were dead and sunken! The wooden coaster is nuts!! Im a little curious to reason behind the corkscrew track? Its it because you needed the dive loop pieces? I also think calling it a GCI is so cute. Were in this insane fantasy land with and but GCI IS HERE!!!! I love it.

As far as the contest goes Im a huge fan of this park, Its very relatable. Its fast, passionate, and shows a love for the game. The port and exploration aspect are super obvious!

This park is so diva. You really built IT! Congrats builder.

  • Narc%s's Photo

All three entries fulfill the objectives (as well as being high quality) quite well. There’s ports, ships and a sense of exploration. Well done!

    AJ's Alamo Expo

Personally I preferred AJ’s round 1 and 2 submissions. Compared to them this one feels a little empty, despite being filled with nice little scenes. I think the boardwalks dominate the macro and steal the spotlight from the rest of the area.

The log flume is a strong contender for the best ride of this round.

    Bocas Del Toro

Cute and fun little park. I really like the coaster. It manages to feel realistic while still being innovative, a great combination of attributes. The tropical foliage and beach combination is very well executed, downright inspiring!

    Memories of Mauritius

Holy density Batman! I like to compare RCT to building miniatures and this submission is a perfect example of that. Each centimeter is filled with fun little scenes and settings to explore. The rides weave in and out of each other and the landscape, and the landscaping is incredible! The coaster suffers from being specified as a GCI without looking like a GCI, in the setting I think a fantasy ride would have been a better fit. But it’s a minor thing, the over all quality of this submission is incredible.

  • Hepta%s's Photo

What an interesting round, three super high-quality entries! Really enjoyed viewing all of these.

    AJ's Alamo Expo

First of all, congrats on making a solo entry into every round so far! Truly impressive to keep up this level of building and inspiration by yourself. I had a lot of fun looking around the Alamo and really enjoyed the log flume layout. Overall I thought it took a bit too much liberty with the time period objective, it felt a bit more themed to 1800s, but I did really enjoy the exploring the park!

    Bocas Del Toro

This was a cool entry, it really captured the 1500's feel! The water coaster was super fun and definitely very prominent. I think the entry could have been elevated to another level with centerpiece like a larger ship, or perhaps a landscape feature, to draw everything together. But overall I think it perfectly targeted the objectives, and it's done with a great aesthetic. Loved the vibe!

    Memories of Mauritius

Kumba, Deano, you guys are crazy with this. So many details and corners to explore. I didn't even have the advanced track plugin working on the first viewing, and I spent so long looking around. Then of course the water ride was so cool. Really well done and can't believe you packed it all in there like this. Besides the amazing quality, I thought you did decent on the objectives but the water ride could have been more prominent, and the buildings all felt a lot later time period than 1600. Felt more like 1700s time period. But nevertheless, a fantastic RCT accomplishment and couldn't be happier to see it from a team of NE legends. And props to Deano for three TTA 50% duo entries in a row! That's a lot of building!

  • TimmyTuner%s's Photo

Another awesome round of TTA! Only 3 maps this time, but the quality is incredibly high. Definitely made for a tough vote!

    AJ:
Great looking park. That layering and interaction on the flume and the heartline twister is awesome. Great pathing and the shaddow effect is a really neat little touch! Music as always fire. Great work as always AJ, your tta run is so inspiring! Keep it up!

    Jens and JK:
That sign though! Loving the atmosphere and jungle foliage. Supporting attractions are on point and the watercoaster is inspiring. Those boats are awesome too, that mix of track and cso works so well here! Huge fan, glad to see yall enter this contest.

    Kumba and deano:
So much to explore in this one with with all the details, peep scenes and cutouts in the back. Truly feels like a little treasure hunt. Some great macro decision with the framing of those waterfalls and the landscaping! Love me a dense and busy map, this hits just right for me!

  • Xtreme97%s's Photo

    Memories of Mauritius:
Awesome entry guys! And wow, deano you've been a machine these past 3 rounds, great work. This one felt quite eclectic, a little rough around the edges with regard to some of the landscaping, but the atmosphere and vibe is top work and the map feels so alive. The big coaster is very cool, with its swooping turns and the interaction with the landscape, particularly diving under the waterfall which is a great moment. The port town was also really well done, love the starkness of the black colour for the fort which stands out really nicely and adds some historical flavour (I also love a gradient moment ofc). The water ride was nice, not quite as prominent as the coaster but still great to follow around the map and discover the little caves.

    Alamo Expo:
First off, the soundtrack on this was amazing, love hearing lushious massacr and these song choices! The park is a cool concept and feels very connected to the history. I like how it sort of lines up with your R1 park in terms of the modern setting but this time with more of an archaeological vibe. The ruins and docks placed above them are really nice as a viewing spot. The log flume and togo combo are great, and the side-by-side drops on the flume going down the river are a great moment.

    Bocas del Toro:
Ooh, this is a sweet piece of work Jens. It's not as ambitious as something like San Avaiki but the landscaping is still top tier (especially the sandy dunes and foliage choices) and the overall map macro is gorgeous. It's a cool choice to go with something more removed from the European settlements and to highlight the indigenous world at the time of discovery. The launched water coaster is lovely with some great landscape interactions such as the double dive out of the cave. Very vibey overall!

Great round y'all! A very competitive one.

    AJs Alamo Expo

DON'T DO IT LITTLE GIRL! The soundtrack is phenomenal, I was vibing so hard in my desk chair. And the vibes are also visible in the park! Nice and warm colors used, a bit more brighter greens for the foliage and lots of water. I always knew your nature game was strong and you just keep showing it with scenes like below: great object variation, really convincing shore lines and nice gradients.

    Attached Image: Review AJ 1.jpg

I also liked the birb tree and all the walkways. I probably would've gone for full planks instead of the occasional brown tarmac or maybe even done some transitioning of the lighter brown to the darker planks with grass trims and other crunch objects.

    Attached Image: Review AJ 2.jpg

Great interaction between the coaster and the log flume. I do wish you spiced up the roof of the Alamo Tours building, maybe some crumbling of the top of the walls on top or give it an overgrown vibe. All in all, wonderful entry AJ!

    Memories of Mauritius

I thought H2H was over y'all. Geez this park is massive! So much to look at, but my eyes immediately went to the fort: really fantastic use of the half diagonals and gradients! I'm in love with the Ballistic Defender flatride and the lil' show in the middle. I do think more White Water objects around the sea level of the fort would've been a solid touch since you only used it in 2 sections.

Attached Image: Review Deano & Kumba 1.jpg

The rockwork was a bit hit-or-miss for me. I loved sections like the backside cut-out or the steep sloped rockwork around the coaster where gradients were visible and where it looked like each rock was placed with a clear vision in mind (see examples below).

Attached Image: Review Deano & Kumba 3.jpg

Attached Image: Review Deano & Kumba 4.jpg

Other sections looked a bit more chaotic like the place near the sea. The rock colors are the same throughout the whole section and there's no transition between the land blocks and Fisch rocks. This would be my biggest critique of the whole park, as the rest looked pretty damn good to me.

Attached Image: Review Deano & Kumba 2.jpg

There's so much amazing stuff in this park that I'll end off with a quick, rapid-fire paragraph: the boats, the Tradewinds sign, the waterfalls, the nin & Steve peep scene, all the elements on the water coaster, the interaction moments throughout the park and the cozy little buildings like shown below. Congrats on your win, show 'em who's boss in the final!

    Bocas Del Toro

I'm back! Around 2,5 weeks before the deadline I had a vision for a park centered around the discovery of Panama which happened in the exact time period that this TTA round was meant for. Perfect! First thing down was the water coaster layout which was inspired by the launched water coaster coming to Freizeitpark Plohn in 2026.

I always knew the deadline was gonna be tight for me, especially knowing that I'm not the fastest builder. I did finally learn how to use the Ctrl key, but at some point I asked J K for some help with the huts since that was my weakest point in terms of skills for this park. And deliver he did! He even created an ominous looking statue object as an added bonus, lucky me / us.

From then on, it was consistent work until the deadline and just checking off my to-do list one task at a time. I managed to do everything I wanted and am happy ánd proud of the end result. Thank you once again J K for helping me out and thanks to all of y'all that left those nice reviews! Here's to more Jens J. work in the year 2026!

Your entry grew on me each day and I was sure it would be a close vote, even had a dream we tied for 1st place! It's simple perfection. The smaller map size seemed to allow so much detail. The rope course is the best I have seen. All the basic details were great, then you had cool extras like the moving barrel and the croc! Your peep scenes were so good, oddly even like our own, having fun with Gustav and Steve, lol. You earned most of your votes on the objectives and I really see why. The setting is right on the spot and since it was your only ride, Ouibian was clearly prominent. I did wonder why no port or docks, but that would be two far ahead. My favorite thing on the map is the opening to the track-made sign. Love how it's a throwback to your roots and I kinda love it when people do things I am not even sure how to do! Fantastic entry, hope to see more work from you soon!

Such a fun entry, love the modern twist with the local radio broadcast. Like with Jens, I really respect how you used a smaller map with the tradeoff being a fully finished entry. The ship wrecks were all great and I really enjoyed all the peep scenes. I liked the extended docks to venture out and the little jetties they were on. Excellent work on the rides two, Rio Loco was solid and it's always great to see a hacked heartline coaster. The lift spike was a great addition. Amazing that you (and Deano!) are now up to three entries in a row and you're doing it solo! Your enjoyment of RCT is inspiring.

    Favorite area

    Attached Image: ttar3ssaj.jpg

Mauritius is something I have had in mind for an RCT project since I found a pic of the 7 colored earths during H2H9. Still, I did not know much about the island. When this objective came up, I Googled to see if it could fit... a bit after the timeline, but close enough and I found out about the underwater waterfall. I was inspired, just had to find a partner to have a realistic chance to make the deadline. Deano was my first choice, I figured if he did two in a row, maybe he'd be up for a third? The rest is kinda history. He was great since he's solid with architecture, landscaping and hacking. Deano was an outstanding partner. Thank you again! Also thanks to CHE for new swaying plants and Gustav for the palette!

It was fun to do micro/crunch work after my last release (MDM) was mostly macro. I love the peep editor and obviously used it a lot. Really looking forward to whatever challenges the Grand Final brings!

Big thanks to the admin team for all their work on this contest. The presentation is the best I can recall!

Also I am almost done with the fixed version of the half-diagonal benches and will edit a link on here with a DL soon!

This was probably my fav kumba moment on the map. So much life and so many things happening. We didn't want to have much pirate content, but this pirate bar in the center of the map was a great splash for it.

Attached Image: Screenshot 2026-01-02 at 06.44.08.png

It was so much fun to open the map each day and see more splashes of peep scenes, stalls, interactions, just anything to break the pattern of building/ride/path.

Our styles I think contrasted very well - weaknesses aligning with strengths, eg. I suck at ride design, so starting a map with a great coaster already on it is huge to me. I really enjoyed working on this map!

I'm done with prelims now as I have other projects I need to work on; but I'd encourage anyone to just reach out to a few other builders and try to find a match for rounds 4 and 5. And then, just start building! And see what happens.

such a great little round! no shortage of quality here! huge congrats to those who submitted such great parks!

Completely forgot to vote on these! Some very nice work (and amazing peep scenes) from all five of you! The holidays will do that I guess. I could have possibly been on a fourth teaming up with Narc but unfortunately I couldn't clutch it out.

AJ's Alamo Expo: Pack it up. Stop the damn match. This is the single most AJ thing I have ever seen (and heard). Coastal Texas setting? Unique coaster choices? Birds and other random-ass animals everywhere? Banging background music complete with an introduction from Lushious Massacr? Come ON. I love seeing a player's style and personal tastes shine through so clearly.

+ Gorgeous landscaping as typical of an AJ release.

+ Absolutely love the middle area with all the seating and string lights.

+ Green accents in Liam rock walls near water are my religion. I have no choice but to stan.

+ One of the coolest log flumes I've seen in a while! The color scheme, stacked track, and path interactions are mint.

+ The way you got the fifth color on the drop tower is clever.

+ Love the peep/staff scenes. So unlike what you usually see but so AJ.

    + They/them shark. I love a good nonbinary rep.

    - Beige for the birch trunks looks a little odd and blends in with the paths. Is that how they grow them in Texas?

Bocas Del Toro: Lots of comebacks I've been very happy to see as of late! Really missed your lush and detailed style of parkmaking so this was a perfect opportunity for a Jens comeback.

? Starting on a bigass trackitecture sign floating above the map? 2020 DKMP never left you it seems!

+ Hard to put Jens J and bad landscaping in the same sentence. Very lush with some nice accents like the caves and the farmlands.

+ All of the rides are really well done with a strong identity! The launched water coaster is a joy, but my personal favorites are Arecacea (with a really clever train-itecture structure) and Urraca. Love seeing the classic Jens obstacle course come back too.

+ Beautifully executed ships! The cutoff ship with the exposed interior is such a unique move. I was trying to do a ship on Narc's map and it was kicking my ass so it's nice having more examples of how it's done.

+ This map is so interactive! There's a peep scene almost everywhere you look.

    - The map doesn't really seem to have much of a focal point for me. It has a really clear overview but no big standout moments. Not exactly a requirement, but if I had to find one negative...

    - UGH MOM LEAVE ME ALONE I'M PLAYING MINECRAFT

Memories of Mauritius: Unc still got it. While I did forget to vote, this would have been my one vote in both categories. Very strong and content-rich map from a pairing that would have made sense twenty years ago!

+ That view at the top of the map with the compass facing west may be the strongest moment of the entire contest for me. Unbelievable landscaping from Deano with an equally strong Kumba layout that breaks the grid. Somehow despite Deano placing most of the scenery it still has Kumba energy! Proof of a very strong pairing.

+ On that note, Tradewinds is a banger layout. Very unique type of woodie with great flow, a very exciting feel, and an incredible station sign. The track layering is really smart too! Flattered that this came out of you DMing me asking to make the RMC track even browner because clearly chunky overwhelming brown supports aren't brown enough for Kumba.
+ Lost Tressure of the Speaker is very fun to follow. Of course Kumba would spell it like that. Loved all the cave scenes at the back of the map.

+ The range of landscaping here is impressive, from the underwater waterfall and colorful rocks at the lower level of the map to the cliffs and waterfalls at the top.

+ The town is very immersive with so many details and little scenes you have to look extra hard to find. Archi is also very diverse! Love the little peeks into the interiors.

+ The fort is a hell of a setpiece. Getting shades of Xtreme in NEDC6. Great use of half diagonals and some nice boats too!

+ Sit down kids. The king of frozen staff scenes is back. Kumba is the first name I associate with frozen staff and peeps, and once again this map is chock full of little scenes that guide you through Lost Tressure or add a fun accent here and there.

+ Somehow this map retains a very strong macro vision despite having so many conflicting colors and areas.

    - Landscaping feels a little rough in some areas. Dramatic landscaping can be tough to really iron out, but I think Jens' entry is a great example of really smooth feeling landscaping.

  • Description

The island of Mauritius was first settled in 1598 by Europeans and did not have a native population - except for the diverse wildlife of dodos, parrots and monkeys. Over the years it became a popular port for trade and eventually pirates came. The island has an incredible and unique landscape with caves, mountains, exotic sands and even the illusion of an underwater waterfall.
