Nin grabs a top 5 spot and a score that just scrapes under the 80 mark with his idyllic suburban landscape transformed by an alien invasion.

Very fun and lively theme that fits your building style well, and good nin work is pretty much always good. The theme allowed for some fun supporting rides and creative themeing choices, which I really enjoyed. Would've liked to see both sides of the park come together more properly, now they felt cut-off by the coaster mostly. But overall just very solid work!

    1. Fun little entry here. For me it is hard not to compare it to a recent park with a similar UFO theme - Yucca Desert Park - and while I enjoy both, I would be remiss if I did not mention that this park features comparably less content and advanced technical execution in terms of the UFO effects. Despite that, the way you have landscaped the map such that it appears the UFOs are scarring the Earth itself in an all-out invasion is as fun as it is cartoonish. The large power lines were also a cool feature that added some visual balance to the map. Nice work overall, and though a bit short on content, the map was deserving of a design award in my eyes.

Great atmosphere! The music is fantastic and I feel like the scream from the coaster hit differently given the theme that you chose. The entire park feels so retro I really enjoyed it. The little details like the car crashes and the water jetting out from the broken land are nice. I also really like the colours that your chose for the coaster, the pink really fits well in the setting with everything else.

Foliage and Landscaping: No complaints at all with the foliage. The object choices are great and everything is placed extremely well which I would expect from you. I like that you didn't spam objects and gave everything a chance to breath. I also love the little crop circles that you have. This scene below is amazing with the foliage and landscaping

    Attached Image: N2.PNG

The landscaping is also really solid throughout. I think some parts are stronger than others but I think part of the point of your entry is that it is not supposed to be clean. The land textures you used were really solid throughout this entire thing. I think that you do a great job in general of utilizing the different land textures to their fullest. A river or something could have been nice. Would have been cool to see a waterfall or something due to the break in land.

Architecture: I think you did everything you set out to do architecture-wise, everything is really great. With that being said, I wish you set out to do more in this realm. This park does seem like it's missing a real centerpiece to tie everything together. Regardless, I do love what is here. The forms on this building below are amazing

    Attached Image: N1.PNG

The barn is also great and the houses all look very true to real older suburban houses.

Overall: I would rate this and 80%. I think everything here is amazing but I wish you were a bit bolder and expanded the theme more. I really enjoyed this park :)

Unfriendly Invader grabbed my attention right from the overview, and it absolutely delivered. This is a fun, detail-rich entry packed with the small touches you’re known for. The classic sci-fi vibe is nailed perfectly, with fitting music that enhances the atmosphere. The smaller architectural moments and thoughtful landscaping help tell the story, while the constant movement throughout the map keeps it lively and engaging. It invites exploration... and not just from our world :p Easily stands as my favorite entry so far.

    UNFRIENDLY INVADER

Perfect music with the theme style. The disasters caused by the UFOs were very good and the cracked street was very good. The foliage is ideal.

Hoooo, a flying saucer crashed? Yes, deserved it.

That flying saucer hovering over the house and then I saw people being pulled by a tractor beam, wow, that was great. The red light on the black car was nice.

The electricity towers gave special touch to the map and I really liked the rocky edges. The houses are beautiful and well designed, everything was in perfect harmony, the fire, the destruction, in fact an Unfriendly invader

    Congratulations :)

Is this based on your recent building challenges, the ones with the fireworks and giant cat? If so, I'm really glad to see the setting reused and released. I also love to see remakes of older parks with modern scenery and building styles; hope to see more of that; maybe Infestation at Outpost 23 is next?

To be honest though, while the scenery itself is great, the integration of the coaster into the park is probably the weakest aspect of it: it doesn't interact with many rides and the queue area is kind of small, hidden, and lacks decoration.

The coaster doesn't seem to be the priority though, it's the scenery that stands out. I absolutely love the mid-century suburban alien invasion setting, something that used to be ubiquitous in media, but is nonexistent in RCT. The houses, the farm, the electricity pylons, and the smashed sign all nail this setting; it almost looks like something from the Iron Giant. The UFOs are also a nice upgrade from the observation towers in Phatage's park.

Overall, while the integration of the coaster is a weaker part of this, the theme is very strong. This is a wonderful and inspiring tribute to one of the most iconic parks on NE.

Edit: Also wanted to say that I loved the music... I had to double take while listening to it, it's incredible how well Martian Style and the Mars Attacks soundtrack meshes together, almost like an official remake.

The rockwork and foliage are great, really like how the torn part ground is pulled off, especially with how the coaster is set into it. Textures everywhere look great, just the right amount of grit and very consistent.

Houses are all well done, also like how the high energy guests and pathing up top make it look like everyone's running around panicking as the invasion happens. Music is a good remix/mashup, also love the crop circle reference, that's such a cool touch.

As part of this series reviewing the fantastic NEDC6 entries, I will enter into a commentary on how the builders have decided to approach using Pacificoaster’s layout, and how those decisions compare and contrast one another. I encourage reading all my reviews on NEDC6 to get the most out of this more fragmentary commentary you will find interspersed here if you find this interesting or desire clarity.

Immediately upon opening Unfriendly Invader, we are reminded of both the power of nin, and all of nin’s favourite things. nin has an inimitable compositional eye, made evident by his ability to make a rural town rent asunder by aliens look as natural as disneyland.

The gimmick is outstanding - spaceships hovering overhead, even being so polite as to help hold up the coaster. Suburban houses exist amid the wreckage, each one with their own personality and immersive touches. The balance of the map is outstanding, with dominating pylons at one end to lowland farmland to the other.

The park opens on “inside L”, where the cobra roll is beneath the predrop turn. This also appears to be the dominant viewing angle. There is no path crossing the cobra roll, and in fact, nothing crosses the track at all. Instead, the coaster makes great use of trenches to integrate the ride. The track instead reads more like a death ray gouging the earth along its path.

I don’t really have a whole lot more to say other than a great concept executed to an excellent level. I didn’t necessarily find myself blown away, but I take every helping of nin I can get then I return bowl in hand begging for some more. I think some more supporting features would have helped elevate it further into the higher numbers.

SCORE: 80% strong and bold, I just wanted more.

This was a really solid entry, undeniably good stuff. I think overall my takeaway was that I liked everything that was there, but I also wished there was a bit more scope to it. Which is easy to say from this end, I guess. There were UFOs literally ripping the earth apart.

For me, compared to entries that scored around this mark, this one scored a little higher than others on "technical skill level" and a little lower than others on how much I enjoyed viewing it, call that aesthetics or whatever. Would have loved this idea with a little more depth.

I will say that I think it's sometimes easy to discount an entry when it feels kinda effortlessly good. This one ticks that box for me, but it feels that way because you're really excellent at doing the little things well. As always I eagerly await whatever you decide to tackle next.

  • ottersalad%s's Photo

I think this entry sets out to do what it wants to very well. Similar to Bugs and Bots where its the theme at face value. Love the NE logo crop circle and the smashed Welcome sign. Overall very alien apocalypse.

The torn up landscape by the coaster is a very unique idea. Only way to have perhaps elevated that would've been to add a 2nd layer to the trenches carved by the coaster to imply more depth. With the brown used, it becomes a bit muddled in terms of texture. But I digress.

The coaster itself has a cool queue entrance and station. I think that the ride could've used a tiny more interaction like blasting through a house or something.

Congrats on the great score and placement! Its a lovely map.

Music is great and all the details are very fun! The UFOs are very well made and add nice motion to the park in an interesting way. Big fan of the rock work, the carved out destroyed landscape is quite convincing and i love how the coaster slithers through it.

Overall there is not much to say, you took a fun theme, stuck with it and did it really well. Perhaps wished there was a touch more content, but for what it is its really excellent, great job!

This feels straight out of a 90’s sci-fi in the best of ways. The sheer amount of motion and variety was a bit hard to follow in places, but ultimately benefited the theme - I think. The sleepy town vibes are a big plus, and the little details (broken fences, peep abduction scenes, power line effects) all added some wonderful life to this. 85%

Awesome work, feels like a classic nin theme to plunder and you've got quite a bit out of it. I can see some re-use of your building challenge work which is no bad thing as those houses were fantastic so I'm glad they haven't gone to waste. The landscaping is very nicely done, giving the coaster some solid depth to sit among the theming without feeling plonked on top and some nice interactions. The integration of the UFOs into the theme in various ways is deftly done, be it the larger set pieces tearing up the land and buildings or the smaller ones cleverly used as supports. On the whole the map is a very competent piece of work, showcasing your ability to put together a strong theme on short notice and without feeling overexerted. It certainly looks like you had a blast making it so even if that's not the case it'll remain the impression I take away.

  • FK+Coastermind%s's Photo

Honestly, I can't tell if we've seen this theme a lot or if it's just that the times we have seen it (recent H2H and the Phatage namesake come to mind) are notable and that makes it feel more common. I think it might be a bit of both... Regardless, I think the theme makes this stand out from the rest in a great way. There is some stellar execution here, particularly the landscaping. Similar to Ramses, I think there's a clear sense of maturity in knowing where to add detail and build texture and where to allow the games own elements to shine thru. I love all the little scenes and the flying saucers holding up the coaster; a great blend of realism and more fantastical elements. My favorite area is probably the white farmhouse and the landscaping around that, so picturesque even with the flying saucers overhead. There is perhaps a bit of wow-factor missing in this compared to what I expect we'll see in the final entries, but as an execution girly I'm pretty well fed. Congrats on a top placement and a great entry (and design)!

This entry is my favorite out of all them (before seeing the top 3). While not jam packed with detail, everywhere you look is some kind of scene and they all have breathing room, and let the coaster shine as the main attraction. The coaster colors stand out and were a great choice. It pops against the fantastic landscape, and there is good variety there too. I had a really hard time finding anything I wish you had changed. The only thing I could come up with was perhaps the coaster supports were on the lighter side. Everything else was chef's kiss. I'd give it an 80.

  • AntonStengel%s's Photo

I love this! My favorite entry of the 11 we've seen so far, by quite a lot. The map is a ton of fun... you do a fantastic job of mixing realism with believable fantasy. Reminds me of the vibe of the original RCT franchise, upgraded for NE. It feels new and nostalgic, at the same time.

    So many great touches:
-I LOVE that crashed UFO through the town sign. Perfect.
-The cracked roads are awesome, and those broken water lines with crashed cars really take it to the next level.
-The little men in black vans, so fun.

-Animated powerlines tie it all together.

    Great job!

Wake up babe, new nin park just dropped.

+++ nin turned up to 100, all the good bits of your parkmaking style present with some twists on certain areas

++ Supports were great but loved your twist on the cobra roll being supported by the ‘beam-me-up’ moments.

++ Sound track was superb, I hope this will be up for best sound this year

++ NE logo as the crop circle *chefs kiss*

+ Loved the station and the fissures in the land framing the whole coaster

+ Movement across the map was exceptional, everything had a place and added to the crazy atmosphere

+ Welcome to pleasantville sign was great, completely believable

    + Powerlines were exceptional

+ Security guards as the Men in Black was great!

+ The beam-me-up moments and also beam-me-down moments were super funny.

-Lots of content but might just fall short vs other rivals with the same amount of detail and touches (this was before we knew scores)

This theme seems so much up your alley. A development since H2H that with the naturalistic themes mixed with NCSO US brutalism you had going on before I did not foresee. It's hard to do what you do in RCT now, and I'm impressed by how effective you are, again.
Some of the modern rock work here is absolutely beautiful. I love how you offset it with negative space patches of grass and open fields.
I also love the (what I hope is a) homage to Phatage and his famous entry with the same name.
My only critique if you will of work like this is that due to the frilly theme, there's not much room for the kind of elegant and atmospheric RCT I typically crave. So really just a personal preference concern.
