You can save this as a TD6 file but then the game doesn't let you build it. But that's not a fundamental problem, just me being lazy. I copied the available track piece list from the giga coaster and didn't update it when I added steep lifts, so that prevents the TD6 from loading. But if I fix that you could save it just like any other track.

There's lots of bugs like that to work out - in principle, I can do anything an existing track type does, but that doesn't mean I've done it yet. This is still a work in progress.

That’s really brilliant! I cannot wait for the new save format.

Great sprites! Would be very useful. Not sure if anyone mentioned it already, but the diagonal hill track on the far right of the screen does not seem to align perfectly.

  • X7123M3-256%s's Photo

Yes, they are misaligned. The problem is that the steep track sprite actually includes pixels that ought to belong to the previous track piece, so unless the previous track piece is also a steep slope, there will be misalignment (even the default sprites have some).

I am considering changing how these sprites are rendered, as it's the only way to fix the problem.

    wow super cool.

I think the rendering looks too matte though, it needs brighter highlights to match the games other steel coasters.

Here's what it looks like with specular turned on. I think it is an improvement, though I feel this might be a little too much specular. The discontinuity on the diagonal hills is now far too obvious, it will have to be fixed I think.

This is way too cool. It looks absolutely excellent with the highlights.

    Yepp, that did the trick!

It might be a bit too bright, but that could just be the color of the track.
  • X7123M3-256%s's Photo
Some of the other colors aren't so bright ... but ideally, every color would work well. Unfortunately I don't think I'll ever achieve that.

if you are able to make the spines a little darker, including the highlights, it may help.

I honestly think the original screenshot looks best. Probably just a preference thing.
  • X7123M3-256%s's Photo
I like both but I think I prefer the second. The specular gives the sprites more depth, I feel, while the original lacks contrast (a problem that is also evident on my trains). However, I think the specular could be toned down a bit.

What's more concerning to me right now is the transitions - I can't figure out how they are split. Right now, I don't split them, which causes glitching. I need to fix this before I start adding more pieces.

So great. I'm very glad there's still people like you working on custom content.

    This.

I doubt it's going to be much use to the community in the current state - not only are there limited pieces but it requires a modified version of the game to work.

Haha yeah X7 I know it's not done yet. I'm just saying that seeing that things like this are possible and could be in our near future is inspiring. And if/when this is finished, it will get tons of use. Your work, no matter how incomolete, puts a smile on my face and give us hope, as cheesy as that sounds.
  • mintliqueur%s's Photo

Incredible work, X7! I prefer the version with specular turned on, I think it fits in with the game's original graphics very well.

  • X7123M3-256%s's Photo
Yeah, I like that one better too, but I don't know how well it will fit with the original graphics. I found that very difficult when I tried it before. It's certainly true that the original sprites have specular but I think there's something more that's needed. I'm told that Simon Foster used more than one light source for the original sprites, and that's something I've yet to try.

An Intamin mega coaster I made today.

I realize that wing coaster trains would be more realistic than LSM trains, but my wing coaster trains look awful and the LSM trains do look quite similar to Intamin mega coaster trains at this scale. I didn't want to model a new train for this.

Also, there's no catwalk because I couldn't find a steep catwalk object that doesn't glitch horribly. I considered rendering the catwalk directly into the lift sprites like on the 4th dimension track, but my render isn't up to doing this yet.
