Well, you tolerate things when you really don't care for them, but you allow them to exist anyway. If something you tolerate would just go away, you'd probably be happier, but until it does you'll at least put up with it.
Acceptance is different. When you accept something you're going a step beyond simply allowing it to exist. You're basically saying that it's okay with me for this to exist--it's not my thing, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. You have to put some effort into at least understanding things you don't agree with before you can honestly say that you accept them.
Personally, I would say that I accept almost all religious beliefs whether or not I actually believe them myself. Ones that I don't accept are anything that suggests it is okay to kill/injure/persecute people you disagree with or ones that are intolerant of other people's right to believe what they believe. I know some athiests who tolerate religions and some who accept them. It's up to the person, really. -

contrary to the beliefs of many americans, the quran tells you as much about this subject as the bible.
Really, if people would be accepting or tolerant of other people's religions there would never have been so many problems in the world. We might actually have gotten to a point where we were more convinced one way or another. Sometimes you just got to admit the world is really fucked up in a sense, especially when the most fucked up side of all is trying to save it. All Americans talk about is tolerance this and tolerance that. Free speech here and free speech there. Yet you're just as touched by a couple of comics in Denmark, and for true tolerance you'll still have to settle for a vacation to, well, here? The whole idea behind tolerance is actually tolerating more things than you accept, or bringing more ideas to the point where you are actually able to accept them (still very similar meanings.. I'd say i'm tolerating some things but in fact, most of the things i tolerate i've since then accepted.) I'm guessing you can also tolerate towards the point you do something about the pest.
I'm way accepting of everyone though, whether turkish, crazy or tourist. (the last is more like 'tolerate towards the point you do something about the pest.') -

I was ok with the whole thing until I got into the website and the store. They're selling the screensaver for 9.99...if you get the attached giftbook its 16.99..
It bugs the hell out of me that theyre using that for profit. I swear there are at least two photos in their that are preinstalled xp wallpapers...
As for the suject of wars being caused by religions. Well duh! Anything created by humans is subject to the same fundamental rule of creation, survival of the fittest. To be the top religion in the world means that your say on the afterlife goes. If all other religions could be eliminated, then you would be in the most powerful position on the planet.
Thats my biggest problem with religions. While I believe that all religions have some perspective to offer on how we got here, what happens when we die etc., the truth is, none of us actually know. The people who came up with the origional ideas (Biblem Quran etc writers) didnt know either. The fact of the matter is, a lot of stuff could have been forged, created etc. and we'd never know. Unless you died, and then came back to life and had some perspective, then the fact of the matter is, you could be just as easily wrong.
Having gone to Catholic school I put up with religious intolerance all the time. I was the "evil atheist" and I constantly had people trying to save my soul. If it werent so annoying it might have been funny.. -

What, my post wasn't reasonable???^finally, a voice of reason.
LMAO, so you were the Jewish girl from Saved... only a guy.Having gone to Catholic school I put up with religious intolerance all the time. I was the "evil atheist" and I constantly had people trying to save my soul. If it werent so annoying it might have been funny..
What the mother? I know for a fact that those are Webshots pictures. Selling freepics is probably illegal, or at least something that can be challenged by legal action. That's pretty messed up.I was ok with the whole thing until I got into the website and the store. They're selling the screensaver for 9.99...if you get the attached giftbook its 16.99..
Dude... America is ridiculously hypocritical. I think most of us know that. You're only an enemy if you're against us, not if you engage in unethical conduct. Heck, this country's had a history of pursuing heroic action only when it helps us, and never when it would not.All Americans talk about is tolerance this and tolerance that. Free speech here and free speech there. Yet you're just as touched by a couple of comics in Denmark, and for true tolerance you'll still have to settle for a vacation to, well, here?
Just a couple of days ago, the CIA declassified documents that revealed the US could have captured Nazi mastermind Adolf Eichmann (who basically organized the Holocaust and orchestrated the specifics to execute it) FOUR years before he was actually arrested, but chose not to because it would have hurt West Germany at the time. [See CNN article] "The West Germans did not want to see Eichmann captured because they feared what he might say about Chancellor Konrad Adenauer's national security adviser, Hans Globke, Naftali said."
So yeah. America =/= all goody goody like in the history books. -

Except for the whole atheist thing...and I was quite vocal about my disbelief in Chrisitianity...It was really fun to make the religion teachers hate their lives..LMAO, so you were the Jewish girl from Saved... only a guy.

And you've just revealed a great point. To the victor go the spoils. That includes how history is written. The Catholic Church has openly admitted to destroying gospels because they didnt tell the story the way they wanted them to.
But thats a whole other topic..ala Da Vinci Code and whatnot..
And yeah those douchebags are selling those photos..Unless they took the photos without permission, technically there is no legal challenge, as their presentation is considered origional creative property. The only people who would really be able to say anything is the origional artists(photographers) if the photos were used without permission.Edited by minnimee85, 08 June 2006 - 06:21 PM.

That's technically the case, I'd imagine. They allowed Webshots to publish their photos, but that doesn't extend to everyone else. I think. -

Actually, if you figure that they're making money cheaply, they're actually pretty smart.
Just despicable, that's all. -

There's this hilarious little ticker in the Tate Modern by Jenny Holzer in which ~300 conflicting, cheery, sentimental "truisms" scroll endlessly. That's what this website reminds me of. -

I'm kinda late in this topic...
Anyways...that was a beautiful movie, really touching...
Oh...SU182...would you mind thinking before speaking?, I mean...think that what you say is not going to have the same impact on everyone...Everyone Knows God does not exist.
CORRECTION: "I think God does not exist", or "I don't believe in God"...
But don't say "EVERYONE KNOWS", because that's a lie; that's respectless.Edited by RCFanB&M, 18 June 2006 - 12:56 AM.
