News / Next NE Contest

Would you like NE's next contest to be a team or individual one?

I would prefer anything team, particularly park wars with maybe 3-4 on a team instead

As we all saw a few months ago my parkamking skills are an unmitigated disaster; a fiasco, and therefore my hopes of being in any contest rival those of winning all of Warren Buffet's money out of nowhere for no real reason.

But I am a bit of an invidualist so I say solo.

The answer is both, obv, and if you can't figure out how to get it to work than you're just a nub.

can't say I agree. While it is true that team contests can have problems I don't really see it as so black and white where one is ALWAYS better than the other. I think that both contests can be fun and unless you have a specific bad experience I don't really see it as one being "better". Throughout the years there have been good and not-so-good of both although honestly I'd be hard pressed to call anything an absolute flop. The success rate of either depends on the community.

Everything would be so much simpler if it were black and white... I tend to agree more with Micool because what he said has been closer to my experience, but your perspective makes a lot of sense. Thinking back to the contests that I was a part of I preferred going it alone, because during H2H I always seemed to get screwed by my teammate. It all depends on who your teammate is I suppose.

I voted for individual, but it looks as if we will be headed the other direction!

I've voted for a team contest, because I really like the social aspect of H2H.. I remember building MSM with emergo and was one of the most fun things I did on NE/RCT.. And it is reflected in the park (one of those legendary NE releases)..

Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me, as individual can be great too, just look at the PT series..

Oh, and deadlines are great! Really, it helps me now with my solo and can really speed up progress and an actual finish of the park.. So whatever it will be, I think in these times where activity is at a pretty high point on NE, whatever contest will be a success.. Just don't wait too long with making a decision, as people seem to want to have a contest starting right now..

    team!

If it was something smaller, like an individual design or something, I might consider it. I'll not vote, though, since it's still kind of unlikely I'd enter. Team contests are certainly out for me... I don't know how much I could commit to getting something finished in a finite amount of time like that.

Alright whats step 2? Teams won.

I wouldn't call it until you even enough 'team' votes to more than fill out a four-team h2h roster.

    ^ but uh... there are enough :<img src=:' />

I'm looking forward to whatever.... need to get back into some rct heh

thanks to those who have mentioned they have faith in the management to come up with a good contest. it's encouraging.

2nd of march is my last exam. after that i'll have some time to devote to the site.

step2 will be deciding on a contest and creating its rules. most likely, geewhzz and i will come up with a prototype ruleset which i'd then like to see criticised in a multi-chat by whoever feels like he has something meaningful to add towards:

    - making the contest enjoyable and fun to both participants and non-participants
    - helping the contest to run smoothly
    - reducing the amount of dropouts/forfeits
    - finding appropriate deadlines

it does indeed look like team wins this. and since 75 people have already voted, i very much doubt individual still has a chance.

many people have uttered an interest in h2h, so i don't think it will be necessary to consider a different team contest concept against it. or do i hear protest?

    a little outline:

step3 - preparing the contest (graphics, team forums, potentially new customised site functionality to enhance team communication or deadline reminders, etc. i want coordination to be tight as i believe weak coordination is a major reason for poor performance)

    step4 - contest begins

    okay, sounds nice.
if you need any feedback from me I will hear, until then I will wait till the sign up cause I'm afraid I can't help with much else :p .

If I'm online at the time count me in :)

Me too, we should change the rules a little if we do H2H again, but not that much.
  • geewhzz%s's Photo
i think tE is right, if we did do H2H we should allow many more individual parks for the people who prefer that to team-mates.
  • Ride6%s's Photo
We should also allow parks with 3 or prehapse even 4 people to have worked on them. I can't count how many times someone's disappeared after putting a couple hours into a park then disappeared and the other person on board can't finish things up for whatever reason. Being able to jump a third person in there should definitely be allowed.

Smaller map sizes (back to the old 50X50 and under would probably be best) would also help.

    That's a great idea ride6!
Totally agree with that one, as that could be the solution to H2H's major problem: Drop outs..

I think less rounds would be better aswell. Because if deadlines are going to be extended and we keep the same amount of rounds the contest is going to be on for a looong time, which will then decrease the interest and create more drop-outs ala PT3
  • egg_head%s's Photo
I'm for a Team-Contest. But if we do another H2H, make sure, the maps are small enough to finish them. Otherwise it will end like last time :-(
