    screamo

    Let's talk about this.

I like it. I don't listen to much but I like it.

I don't like it, I enjoy softer lyrics more, it gets me in a better mood

get Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair by La Dispute. all-time best screamo album in my book. some other good bands are Loma Prieta, Touche Amore, Glassjaw, and United Nations. though they might be more hardcore. some more typical "screamo" that are still good would be bands like Alexisonfire, Dance Gavin Dance (don't be fooled by the scene-ness, they're one of the best ones), and some of the earlier stuff by Fear Before the March of Flames and Planes Mistaken for Stars.

^the last two albums by dance gavin dance.

    oh my god.

    so freaking AMAZING.

    especially Happiness.

    just absolutely brilliant.

I'll make sure to check out La Dispute and the rest (I've heard UN's LP, I'm not really sure what I think of it). Not a fan of Alexisonfire, and cookie monster vocals piss me off so I don't like DGD (edit: actually I just realized I had a listen to them before I was listening to screamo, so anything that wasn't sung or shouted was cookie monster vocals. I'll check em out).

Anyone listen to La Quiete? I need to find some of their stuff.

well, in DgD's newest cd, the screaming vocals are much much less prominent in the mix.
the singer really starts to come into play a whole lot more, and the guitarwork and overall tightness of the band on that record is phenomenal.

also, the singing is catchy as crap too.

just listen to Strawberry Swisher pt 1.
    or Carl Barker.

    my two favorites lol

what's probably the biggest thing about La Dispute is the lyrics. they're so fucking amazing, it just kills me every time. the most poetic thing i've ever heard.

^I feel the same about Mangum's stuff. It reads just like poetry, only with this really weird rhythm to it.

I really don't mind screaming, I just thought they had those annoying TDWP/BMTH-style death influenced gurgling noises for some reason.

Listen to The Chariot's Wars and Rumors of Wars album. That should break you into screamo pretty nicely.

meh screamo, I'm not a fan of the clean over-processed vocals that seem to be in all of it. I listen to some metalcore and deathcore though, even if it is the musical equivalent of fast food.

And Steve, in a perfect world everyone would be making music just because they like what they make. But what do kids these days like more than anything? Hip hop and screamo. To me brokencyde is just another money making gimmick, like shamwow or someshit.

i somewhat agree with you in that bro^

most screamo these days feature vocals that are wayyy over pitch-corrected and have that 'glossy' sound, which for the most part isnt bad.
except for the fact that when you have this great and processed vocal sound, fans are expecting you to deliver it the same way live, and sadly, thats almost never the case.
(i mean, check out Saosin, Cove has HORRIBLE pitch live lol)

there are a few exceptions in this genre where the clean vocals can sound just as good live, but that relies more on the singer's actual talent, rather than studio added 'gloss'.
i just recently saw We Came as Romans live, and their singer sang every part exactly perfect to how it sounded on their ep, which REALLY REALLY surprised me lol.

but yeah dude, i'm not a huge fan of over-processed vocals either. (ex: attack attack)
i'd prefer the vocalist who can sing it great, but keep it raw and real (Confide)

    :]

    i don't eat, i suck.
and i will gladly submit to your request as long as you provide it.

@cam I'm talking about actual screamo, you're obviously thinking of something else. I've never heard processed vocals in any of the screamo I've listened to. Clean vocals, yes, but not processed.
