Contests / Which would YOU prefer?

If NE were to do a contest this summer what would you prefer it be?

True, olympics would be a very cool format, and would give more people a chance to participate than if we just went with one national team containing a set number of players.

Pm me and we'll start to throw some ideas around.

I was disappointed when no one remembered me. Id like to join the others group too please.

Alright so I've had this idea..

With the unveiling of NE4 and the idea of a recruiting campaign, it might have a chance.

Basically, it would be something like H2H but streched out and more open. It'd play out a lot like MLG's Pro Circuit for games like Cod4, etc:

    - Anybody can start up a team and enter the circuit at any time.
    - Teams must be 2 or more players (maybe a 10 player max).
    - Teams are divided into 4 divisions and challenge a team every round.
    - There's a round each month for a total of 10 rounds.
    - The division champions advance to the playoffs (4 teams).
    - Playoffs last the remaining 2 months of the year.
    - Parks would be 50x50.

Then the next season would start up after that. Players could be traded at any time, and team captains could pick up free agents. As long as the captain doesn't end their team, the same teams would remain the next season. This way certain teams gain prestige and people would work to get on the top teams.

Of course, this would work best with a lot of available players. But it could technically work in the world cup idea on its own; players from certain countries group up on the same team. Same goes for RCT clubs.

..And that's my great idea. :batman:

Personally, I love that idea. With a little refinement it could be awesome to have something like that running year-round.

We could bring the Monthly Micros over for consistency too. With the new point system there has to be a way to keep interest in contests and not take away the quality efforts in the submissions.

Yeah, I've been working on hammering out the rough spots. I'm still not sure how the winning parks for each round would be decided. I think a group of judges would make it the simplest for everyone. And the judges would have to decide on the division champions as schedule difficulty would come into play, although W/L could roughly work.

As, Maverick pointed out about the point system, it could be utilized well in a contest like this. For example, players could play under a yearly salary for a team. Teams would have, say, 1000 points to spend on players per season, so teams are fair and players earn points based on their parkmaking value. Could be pretty interesting.

Dude thats a frickin awesome idea dirt...especially with the new points system, we could make it into a parkmaking league. Like the IPL or IRCTL, International Parkmaking/RCT league. This is a genious idea. I think the admins should def look at this one.

Yeah...along with the dawning of NE4, maybe because of the lesser membership, things like this could become more of the norm. While H2H, ProTour and the like were fine when membership was booming, having something like this that just carries could get more people involved continuously. Throw in an "All-Star Game" or something every now and then and an "Olympics" maybe every TWO years? Have a continuous draft process where 'teams' can pick up and develop new, raw talent and take their chances with them? It's a new site...it wouldn't hurt to try some completely new things.

What you're speaking of dirt is exactly the kind of contest I've always wanted, one that works like a typical sports division system, and also including transfers. And as K0NG mentioned, we could throw in an international contest every two years or maybe even every year. Maybe there should be a 2 month break in the league run (reducing the number of rounds to 8, unless they're played more often) for international contests?

Oh and sorry J K didn't read that until now, I'll be sending a PM your way in a moment.

Awesome ideas guys. There could be an All-Star game every year during the last round. And olympics could be held every so many years instead of playoffs or something like that.
And maybe a 11mo. season to allow for a break, transactions, and drafting.

K0NG mentioned exactly what this kind of contest would be best for - developing new players. It allows everyone to compete and improve in a team setting, something that makes the community tighter and more fun. Hell, I know I wouldn't be playing today if I hadn't been picked up as a replacement in H2H. This could give everyone that chance, and it wouldn't matter how talented they are. Really, players could recruit some of their buddies to play.

Damn, 9 years ago I thought about this idea, and the discussions about H2H and where it should go reminded me of it.  My favorite format, and why I think I and many other players stick around, is H2H.  And I'm always going to back anything that gets more collaborative competitions and apparently I thought that way 9 years ago.  Are there problems with it?  Sure, but I also believe there's way more that's awesome about it than bad for the community, and I still think something more constant, more inclusive, and more laid back would bring everything that's great, and minimize some of the issues.

I highlighted the main points of my contest idea above, but there's some improvements to be made.  In short, it's a circuit of team-based parks that runs yearly with an off-season in between years.  Just like H2H, the main event would occur every three years, where a playoff is held.  So the updated contest would run as follows:

    - Starting year would draft the initial pool of players into equal sized teams (maybe teams of 8 ).

    - Teams are divided into 4 divisions.

    - Teams compete head to head in an 8 month season.

    - The remaining four months is an off season.

    - Teams schedule 5 head-to-head matches each year (4 of which are division matches).

    - At the start of each season new team slots may open depending on player count.

    - New players entering the circuit or free agents are picked up in a draft.

    - Playoffs are held every third year (2 regular season matches, 3 potential playoff matches).

    - Top two teams from each division enter the playoffs

    - Trades are open for the duration of the contest until a trade deadline as the playoffs approach.

That's the gist of the contest itself, otherwise it's the same park requirements as H2H.  One change would be free advertising at the discretion of the teams and the builder requirements are lifted.  For a team of 8, this would be a bit over half a park per member for a timeframe that's more than double H2H.  Teams would also be able to schedule their own matches to align with players schedules as much as possible.  New sign ups can also be placed on a free agents roster, so any dropped player can be replaced.

I think it could have some potential to be a huge contest.  It hits the competitiveness of H2H, but also spreads it out so tensions don't go crazy for three months every three years.  The rules are a bit looser, so teams are as restricted as they want to be.  It's also inclusive for everyone on a yearly basis, and new players have a 4 month window to sign up, and everyone is drafted on a team.  There's also the factors of open trading, so when you're ready to work with a new team, it can be arranged at anytime besides leading to the playoffs; and if a team wants to disband, that's also perfectly viable.

Anyways, I'll keep thinking on it, but I've always thought in the back of my mind it could make NE constantly bustling and exciting.  Imagine the saber metrics we could start doing.

Dirt, in that, how big are the maps, how long is a match and how many team members per map...reminds me the h2h2 i was in yrs ago, we did 2 ppl per map...whatever size Othello is was the standard is.

    Sounds fun
  • dr dirt%s's Photo
Kai, it’d be H2H sized maps, with anyone on the team allowed to build on the map. If you’re talking about match voting length, probably identical to H2H. If you’re talking about how often matches are scheduled, two teams would agree on the due date for the match, so a team essentially decides when their matches will be.
  • Scoop%s's Photo
I’m all for that dirt. The problem is who else would have that kind of motivation?
  • ottersalad%s's Photo

Good point Scoop. If this were to be reality, here's my thought:

    - make teams of 10

    - have maybe 2-3 head to head matchups amongst those 10 builders

    - 8 month period to build those 2-3 parks

10 players split 3 ways would cut down on motivation issues perhaps. I would be super motivated to build on one h2h quality park a year. After that, I'd struggle.

Love the idea of trades/free agents/yearly drafts. Would be neat.

Still a solid idea Dr Dirt.

  • dr dirt%s's Photo
Yeah I’m he number of matches could easily be cut down for motivation issues, or teams could schedule as many matches they’d like, as long as a minimum of 3-4 is hit or something along those lines.

The player number is something more important to consider, as larger teams would probably result in less players bouncing around teams through trades. With more people to theoretically build with, there would be less incentive to get traded. Also, more importantly, larger teams reduces the number of total teams, which I think having more teams is beneficial for this contest.. another option would just to be having a player cap, but teams can be formed with less if a captain wishes.
  • Lilith%s's Photo
i like that idea a lot, it sounds like it would be much more accessible for players who cant contribute as much to a park in the h2h timeframe but still want to compete
