General Chat / Vegas under 21

    Oi,

I'm going on a study trip to the US this friday. Included in our trip is a weekend to Las Vegas. The problem that about half of my class mates and I are facing... we are under 21.

Of course there is more to do than drinking and gambling when you're under 21. So does anyone of you have any tips? Some must visits? Things we need to do?

I'm planning on visiting the stratosphere tower. Other than that, looking for the most fun things to do in visit is like looking for platinum in a silver mountain.

Can you get married with a stripper?
  • chorkiel%s's Photo

Yes. But I only plan on doing that if it's by an Elvis impersonator who's actually Hans Klok who's actually Siegfried and Roy.

  • inthemanual%s's Photo
Well, you could hit adventuredome. :D

You can get married with a stripper, but you can't drink. What is wrong with the US!?

    ^Can't make drunken decisions?

Unfortunately can't really help you much chorkiel. Just take in the atmosphere as much as possible I guess.

Even if you're not old enough to experience an excruciating headache and feel like you want to die in the traditional Las Vegas hangover fashion, the city was nice enough to build something that simulates this feeling so you don't feel left out.

you know I didn't hate it so much. actually, it was fine.

I have a tip for you.... If you gonna ride that coaster wear a helmet :)

  • Maxwell%s's Photo

What the hell it's called "Big Apple Coaster" now?! :D

  • inthemanual%s's Photo
    That's actually offensive.

I think people just call it "Manhattan Express".

Anyway, I lived in Vegas from 11 to 18. I hate Las Vegas and the Las Vegas valley more than anywhere else I've ever lived or visited. But there is a ton of shopping (even though it's overpriced and has sales tax... ugh), especially if you can hit up Town Square (just south of the strip), the revamped Las Vegas Outlet Center (further south, past the 215/I-15 interchange), or even the shops in the Venetian. The whole section of "Forum Shoppes" is really nice and surprisingly not too bad price-wise. Lots of stores you might not see anywhere else. And the canal/old Mediterranean atmosphere is quite nice, especially because you're indoors and it's not 110*F. Fashion Show is nice too but probably the most expensive "normal people" mall in the valley.

Also there are always shows. Pick out two or three and hunt around for the cheapest ways to get tickets for them. Stratosphere is alright too if you like thrill rides. If you have a thing with heights though, I wouldn't recommend it.

Check out the manual laborers round 1 park.

Check out Freemont street. They have a canaopy that plays musical lighshows at night, really cool to see. M&M store is cool if your in to that sort of thing. Watch every free show you can, theyre all pretty good.

    edit:

Just looked it up, we`re both wrong. Its Fremont street. My bad

    ^Isn't it called Fairmont street?

    "MFG"

    Thanks, this is quite useful.

I'm with a group of people from school and Stratosphere is pretty mainstream/commercial, so that's likely the only coaster-related place I can take people to. I've heard a lot about being able to get pretty cheap tickets to pretty neat shows, so I'll be sure to look at that too.

Take time to at least walk down the strip past each of the notable casinos. MGM, Excalibur, New York New York, Tropicana, are all right on the same intersection. If you have any interest in Lego's, legoland shop is near MGM. The Ballagio fountains are right across from Paris(not sure what its called) and should be seen at least once. Ceasar's Palance is a must see simply because of its massive size, take time to walk through even if you can't gamble, it's still really cool to see. The stratosphere is super far from all this, probably a 10 or so minute drive without traffic IIRC. Stratosphere is a dump except for the tower itself, which a pretty interesting experience. They do have a few rides on the top, but they are very expensive if you can muster up the courage to ride them.

So yes, LV can be fun for those under 21. Treat it as a normal tourist city instead of a gambling/drinking spot. Walking up and down the strip and seeing the casinos up close can easily take up a day and a half and is great fun.

Yes, but mind the people who may try to mug you on the strip and the dense cigarette smoke in the casinos. The fountains are nice but they're also in the dead center of the strip. Finding parking just to be able to walk around sucks. The area around Stratosphere is pretty sketchy, and Fremont Street is even sketchier (if you visit at night, stay in the main stretch. Do NOT go into the alleys off either side.), but still interesting if you have time.

I absolutely LOVE Vegas to death. Been visiting at least once a year since I was 6. :D

Where are you staying on the strip? That heavily determines your schedule because getting from the north strip to the south is annoying and time consuming.

    Things to do:

The cirque du soleil shows are the best imo, and O at Bellagio is the best of the bunch. Tickets are pricey, but if you can get them I would definitely go. It's worth it. Besides O, Mystere, Ka, and Love are all amazing.

Best buffet on the strip is at the Wynn, and I hear the new Cosmopolitan one is not bad but I haven't been. Bellagio's is old school. Pricey but very satisfying.

I remember there being good crab leg buffet at the Californian in DT Vegas. Don't know if that's still a thing.

Definitely watch the Bellagio fountains one time or another. They are beautiful. They run at 15 or 30 minute intervals or something during the day and night.

If you like arcades, Excalibur has a pretty big one.

Go swimming. Most hotels have amazing pools. Mandalay Bay has a wave pool and lazy river.

Walk down the strip. Takes an hour max and you see all Vegas has to offer.

Do visit Adventuredome if you want to ride some rides. It isn't a full day trip, you can hit most of the major rides in a couple hours.

There's a gigantic ferris wheel in the middle of the strip now. Great views of the whole city.

And you can always get drunk as long as you get someone over 21 to buy you drinks from the liquor store and just drink in your room.

    Just don't get caught. :p

  • Louis!%s's Photo

The cirque du soleil shows are the best imo

And our very own Turtle stars in one of them :)
