Says the faggot who has an avatar from a movie about a war between werewolves and vampires.
Hopefully the irony kills you. -

Ha... ha? No.
I'm just sporting it because FINCH is on the soundtrack. I've never even seen more than 10 minutes of any of the Crow movies. Finch. My hometown band. Thank you not so very much. Queerfuck. -

which begs the question, if you're so enamored with the "real world", what are you doing here? And on a friday night no less. -

My friends are downstairs watching Freddy Got Fingered. Not my favorite movie. I'd rather listen to music, or make it with Fruity Loops, and chat with buddies online about how much of a fuckup one of my chick friends is for fucking a 26-year old when she's only 17, and was drunk.
And what about you? Isn't their a fucking gay-ass football game going on you could be watching? -

punch drunk love and adapation were horrible, i really wouldn't consdier those list worthy (but it's your list). Although i haven't seen bowling for colembine, the guy who did it was Canadian, and i already love the movie (because the fact you don't trust his facts).
Iceage was good and Catch me If you can was great! Tears of the sun was worthy of a postion...but you thought that was crap. -

I leave it for Ed to argue with you over Adaptation, since it's his favorite of last year... anyway.
Tears of the Sun was 2003. It came out in March.
About Bowling For Columbine, it's a fact that he deliberately misleads people in an attempt to prove his points. I agree with alot of the points he's trying to make, but disagree with the way he goes about doing it. I'd show you a site with proof, but since you haven't seen it, it would be worthless. Tell me when you see it and I'll give it to you. -

Who said About Schmidt? Are you fucking stupid?
That was the worst peice of crap I've ever seen. No feeling, no dialogue, just watching some old guy go through what every other old guy goes through. I fell asleep.
Otherwise I think it's a good list. Mine wouldn't have been exactly the same, but most of it is rather obvious. Oh, and I agree with iris - Count of Monte Cristo was amazing. -

The Count of Monte Cristo
had high expectations after seeing the trailer (great trailer). movie left me with no feeling. Probably has something to do with it butchering one of my favorite novels. -
Micool Offline
Ah, okay. Well I've never read the book. However, I don't mind movies butchering books for the sake of the flow or time of the movie...example; Stuart Little. Good book, great little movie. Completely butchered. -

Adaptation? Horrible? Well you're certainly entitled to your opinion so I'm not going to beat mine into you. It was my favorite of last year though so at least allow me to explain why.
When you're talking about the movie Adaptation it all begins and ends with the script. The script is the movie much more so than can be said about most movies. It also happens to be the most brilliant script written in the last 10 years. Maybe ever. See now it's fair that people might not like it because the movie isn't at all interested in pleasing the audience. It couldn't care less. Charlie Kaufman is having too much fun twisting and turning every paragraph of the script into 3 or 4 different meanings that he doesn't bother to make the movie enjoyable. Which is wonderful. Watching Adaptation is like reading a really good book. When I started to notice that the script Charlie is writing in the movie is the script of the movie itself that put a smile on my face and the smile never went away because the whole movie is like that. You could say it's the story of the writing of a script. Or you could say it's the story of the book as told through vignettes. Even the double meaning of the word adaptation is an integral part of the script. This is one big word game of a script and Charlie Kaufman (I'm talking about the real one this time) never let me down. Ever. There isn't one word in this script that's out of place. Some people seem to see the ending as a negative because it turns into a typical hollywood ending. The obvious answer to this is that it was intentional as the film makes a point of mocking hollywood script structures. It's even better than a clever twist though. I've seen cliche hollywood endings and I've seen just as many anti-hollywood endings and they're both lame. There's a tendency for certain types of filmmakers to slap on a dileberatly vague or ambiguous ending when there isn't really a reason for one. When you start thinking too much about being a filmmaker and not telling a story than you sabotage yourself and you're no better than the lame hollywood formula writers. But this movie trumps them all. It acknowledges the problem in both types of endings and gives us a protagonist who clearly articulates the writer's struggle throughout the film. So when the ending happens you can take it as another clever double meaning or you could take it as a clever movie turning into a lame hollywood movie or you could take it as Charlie Kaufman not knowing how to end it and loving the fact that he didn't know how to end it because that there (the search for the perfect ending ) IS the perfect ending. This is a movie for people who make movies or for people who write stories. If the struggle of the main character doesn't interest you than I can definately see why you wouldn't like the movie. As somebody who writes and struggles with the same sorts of internal conflicts that plague the main character I not only appreciated what Charlie Kaufman was saying about himself, I appreciated how clever it was to write an adaptation of a book that encorporates the writing process itself. This script is like a jigsaw puzzle, all of the pieces fit together forwards and backwards. It's such an incredible writing triumph that I left the theater in awe. I know I'll never see another script as brilliant as this one because it can't be done again. Sorry for the lack of paragraphs. Adaptation is an AMAZING movie. -

VTD - shut up. You quoted an entire post, in which I make a single comment against you and then claim the entire post is bullshit, because of it.
Most of my post was a review of Punchdrunk Love, written because I hated seeing so many flaming a film I hold so dearly.
Whatever...
You want to go waste your money on big budget 'dramas', go ahead. I'll be watching the real movies - well I guess big budget 'dramas' technically are real movies but they're also bloated, overly sentimental, and yet ultimately empty and dull crap (generally speaking). -

Anyways.
Adaptation. I was reluctant to go see that movie but when I was out of there I was impressed.
Not only was it funny but it made you think. There were so many good things about that movie. In my opinion it is the best drama of the year. -

Really... because I said nothing of the sort. Anyone who doesn't have their head firmly implanted in their ass could tell without a shadow of a doubt that I was only replying to your last little comment directed at me. You're the one who spewed the venom first, don't act like you weren't expecting a reply in kind. You disliked a fair number of the films on the list, and claimed the entire post was bullshit because of it. It seems you are the offender here.
Obviously you misread my post, because, once again, nothing I said had anything to do with your review. Most of my post was a review of Punchdrunk Love, written because I hated seeing so many flaming a film I hold so dearly.

You dismissing everything not made by self-indulgent directors like PT Anderson and other "independant" cinema is as bad as someone saying Punch Drunk Love sucks because it wasn't "funny" like The Waterboy. Then again, I guess that's what I should come to expect from someone who oozes pretense at every pore. -

Stating which movies you like and don't like is far too often the pretense for elitism. A lot of film students I know behave like that and it drives me crazy. You may think that liking an independent art movie makes you intelligent, well-read, someone of good taste, etc. I say being well informed is no better than being uninformed. People who like big blockbuster movies are often easier to get along with than people who like more high brow movies because they aren't arrogant and dismissive. They actually listen to other people in a conversation instead of forcing their opinions down your throat. Elitism is nothing to be proud of. So it'd be nice if people would stop using their favorite film lists as dick measuring contests. Thank you. And no I did NOT direct that statement at anyone in particular. vTd I liked your list and I know you didn't mean it like that. It's just all these people I know.
I actually did enjoy Punch Drunk Love though I didn't think it was brilliant in any way. Now I did think Magnolia was one of the best movies of the last decade but it was also pretty boring and difficult to sit through. Some people just want to be entertained and some movies are only made for the pleasure of the director. Maybe Hollywood formulas annoy some people, but some people out there do enjoy them and they have a right to enjoy them without film snobs jumping all over them. Recognize that what brings you enjoyment may not bring everyone enjoyment and that is okay. I have a right to like and dislike whatever I want dammit and so does everyone else. Bah.
As you can see I'm mildly annoyed by what passes for intelligence in this world of ours. Everyone just wants to tickle their own ego at the expense of everyone else. You should all do yourself a favor and move to Sri Lanka or some other remote island. It's impossible for a rational person with a moral conscience to exist in this society without going insane. -
