Really... because I said nothing of the sort. Anyone who doesn't have their head firmly implanted in their ass could tell without a shadow of a doubt that I was only replying to your last little comment directed at me.

You could have easily quoted that single comment - which had nothing to do with the rest of my post - but you didn't. You quoted my entire post and as such I read it as a reply to my entire post.

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

You're the one who spewed the venom first, don't act like you weren't expecting a reply in kind. You disliked a fair number of the films on the list, and claimed the entire post was bullshit because of it. It seems you are the offender here.

I didn't 'spew venom' - I just said something really stupid, really late at night. I thought it was funny (still think it is) and it certainly was honest. But it was in no way meant to be mean spirited, much unlike all of your posts (from what I can tell).

You dismissing everything not made by self-indulgent directors like PT Anderson and other "independant" cinema is as bad as someone saying Punch Drunk Love sucks because it wasn't "funny" like The Waterboy. Then again, I guess that's what I should come to expect from someone who oozes pretense at every pore.

When did I say that? My comment was directed squarely at the kind of film I see you constantly praising. Almost everytime I see you praising a film, it is an enormous (and enormously empty) spectacle, typically no less prentencious (and far less deserving of their pretencions) than the films I typically enjoy.

But honestly, I did enjoy quite a few of the movies on your list. I mainly disagreed with what they were surrounded by and how high or low they placed.

And I don't ooze pretense! Perhaps on the web I do, but that is only due to the fact that I have a very difficult time expressing my opinions through a keyboard, let along expressing them properly.

    Whatever...

    Sorry for the misunderstanding.

It's not something I usually think about with this forum, for the simple reason that the piece that is quoted doesn't show up in the main typing window.

I didn't 'spew venom' - I just said something really stupid, really late at night. I thought it was funny (still think it is) and it certainly was honest. But it was in no way meant to be mean spirited, much unlike all of your posts (from what I can tell).

Well then there is another misunderstanding. How am I supposed to read you when you say something like that without a hint, especially when you're reputation is that of someone who shows complete and utter disdain for everything you don't like.

When did I say that? My comment was directed squarely at the kind of film I see you constantly praising. Almost everytime I see you praising a film, it is an enormous (and enormously empty) spectacle, typically no less prentencious (and far less deserving of their pretencions) than the films I typically enjoy.

By saying "the list sucks" without going into any further detail. It would seem you dismissed everything up there.

First of all, what is the point of discussing a film no one here has seen... That's exactly why you would usually find me discussing "spectacle" films here, because it leads to discussion. Fact is, I often do enjoy a good "spectacle" film, but unlike you as it seems, I'm not one to shut myself off from the other end of the spectrum. If I want to discuss Irreversible, Ken Park, Atanarjuat, etc... I do it over at a different forum.

But honestly, I did enjoy quite a few of the movies on your list. I mainly disagreed with what they were surrounded by and how high or low they placed.

Great, then discuss them. It's better than a snide remark that may or may not be a joke.

And I don't ooze pretense! Perhaps on the web I do, but that is only due to the fact that I have a very difficult time expressing my opinions through a keyboard, let along expressing them properly.

Again, obviously that's what I meant. I don't know you in real life, all I'm going on is how you present yourself around here. That brings me to something else. That last sentence I believe went along way to your unconditional love of PDL. (And that is not meant to be a dig, but an observation)

Punch Drunk Love was pure crap. It was the dumbest movie I ever seen...

    Shut the fuck up.

You obviously didn't understand The Hours.

    Shut the fuck up.

    As for this VTD-Gardner shit.
VTD? After the hilarious way you react on Danimation to anyone who critises A.I, you have no right to be offended by Gardner's comments.
    I mean. Fucking really.

Ending it like that would have left the movie incomplete and undermining itself.

You prefer your "ending" simply because it's blatant and obviously manipulative. I should expect as much from someone who missed the everything the film was going for.

    Bra-fucking-vo.
That, right there, was the moment you forfeited your right to get defensive whenever someone attacked/mocked your views.
But, hey. We all make mistakes. A lot like that Gardner faggot. Even if he is a hysterical stereotype.
I don't see how the fucking shit you can be offended by someone who "relates" to Punch-Drunk Love and is a big fan of the Cheeky Girls. What the fuck is up with that shit?

While we're on the subject of stupidity, here's another gem by you from that Danimation thread:

I got news for you buddy, manipulating emotions is what movies are supposed to do

Good shit. Let's debate that line until the cows come home (what the fuck does that shit mean, anywhosies?).
Actually, the desire to be emotional manipulated is a pretty American thing. What the fuck is up with this "feellings" shit that you guys have, anyway?
Stanley Kubrick (Hitchcock too, for the matter) had that shit down just right - clinical and detatched, the audience can feel what they want to, but they are never cheesily manipulated into feeling what they do, even if the end result is that the audience feel nothing.
This is why Speilerg is a fucking retard. Except for that one movie, Empire Of The Sun. That shit is viagra to my erection for humanity.
But generally, I tend the loathe movies which force shit down my throat. They're. Well, shit.
But hey, I'm just an old sociopathic British guy with absolutely no emotions to speak of.

Right then. Am I the only faggot here who prefers Boogie Nights over Magnolia and Punch-Drunk Love?
    Fine. You're all pretentious jerk-offs.
    I mean. Shit.
"You obviously didn't understand The Hours."
    What the fucking shit.

It's a good job I'm here to save the forii from self-important dipshits, man.
    Yes. That's right.
The critically acclaimed* Git is back!!!
You see, my shrink claims that I am spending too much time obsessing over my oedipal complex, and shutting myself off from the outside world in order to burn myself with cigarrettes, and send home-made bombs to stupid American bastards from my cabin retreat in the woods**. So he ordered me to spend more time with my sister and her husband. Well, not really. He told me to "Get the fuck out of my sight you fucking pervert."
    But it was implied.
Anywayz!! I fucking hate my sister for marrying that guy. He's like. Jesus, or some shit. That fat slag doesn't deserve him. I object.
But, the preist once said, "Speak now or forever hold your piece".
    Now my dick is raw.

    But seriously. That shit hurts.
Anyway. In case you're too fucking slow to have noticed, I'm taking it back to da old skool, ev3ry0n3. Yes. What this means, see, is that I will post very little in order to keep my Pink Floyd mystique. Indeed.

*It's true. Here's what today's leading forum-goers have to say:
"He is a twisted, disturbed person! I'm telling you, WIERD. Dan got rid of a potential maniac, I swear. He was sooo wierd. . . *shivers*"
    -Josh

"Git is a fucking moron but nobody realises it"
    -PyroPenguin

"... Like, when, you think you're going to fart, but you end up shitting yourself by accident. Yeah. Always wear condoms."
    -My mother.

    "Git rules."
    -Posix.

**Actually, dildos. I am trying to set-up a sex toy business. It's time someone fucking took care of that bullshit monoply Holland have over that shit.

    1. Magnolia
    2. Boogie Nights
    3. Hard Eight
    4. Punch Drunk Love

That's the order I prefer my PT Anderson films.

    Hey VTD.

Um - I'm not a "big fan" of the Cheeky Girls. They make fun, stupid music.

    Nothing amazing - nothing terrible.

And I don't relate to Punch-Drunk Love in the way you probably think I do - its a rather indirect relation. I understand the characters - something few others seem to be able to claim - but I'm not much like any of them.

    Anywho...

How am I supposed to read you when you say something like that without a hint, especially when you're reputation is that of someone who shows complete and utter disdain for everything you don't like.

I do? No - I gladly state my opinions, often times in a wondrously harsh manner (purely for my own enjoyment - not any true conviction) - but I don't have complete and utter disdain for everything I don't like.

    Whatever.

The Two Towers was brilliant. Physically exhausting but brilliant.

Was Shrek in 2002? Because that would be very near the top of my list...

Legend of the Drunken Master with Jackie Chan is the best movie ever IMO, but I'm not too well versed in movies.

Haha, I saw that a few days ago. It's the most amazing thing ever, I think.

Fucking hell. I don't think I've seen 25 films in my lifetime. All I know is that Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Office Space, and The Blues Brothers the greatest movies ever. Or at least, the best I've seen.

That's why I do the music thing, kids. Well, that and I'm going through the typical post-geek phase.

My friend says his favourite film is 'Harvey'.

I have no idea what he's going on about....invisible bunny?

Only movie I saw on that list was Ice Age. It was pretty good.

I know you didn't like Spider-Man, vTd, but that was my favorite movie of 2002....out of the 5 that I saw.

I didn't dislike... I enjoyed it, the first half was good, and despite the lame CG, it looked to have a bright future... but after GG came into the picture it really just turned into Power Ranger Hour with a cool performance by William Dafoe.
