That avatar... take it away. I beg you. It's my series. By all means. I could not stand it if it had a connection with you. Probably you just ripped the avatar from someone you saw online.
Whatever, it's not like I'm telling you to choose a different one, I'm literally begging you. Please help!

(P.S.: This is half a spamthread anyway so don't blame me. And I always go nuts when it comes to Evangelion. So there.)

So no one misses out on the good news:

    RCTGL is back!
    Hey everybody

It's been a while since I posted here, but I thought I'd make a return to Danimation.

I also wanted to announce the I am working on development for RCTGL again.

In case you don't know what RCTGL is, let me give you a little background. RCTGL is a 3D viewer for RCT parks. Currently, it does not work with RCT2 parks, but that will change in the future. In the previous version, you could load up any RCT park and walk around like a peep. You could also view some of the rides, but you couldn't ride them yet (this is in the works)

    Changes for Milestone 6:
    - Smaller install size
Most textures are produced procedurally (run-time), which eliminates the need to have them as files
    - Better textures
I have replaced all of the surface, path, and edge textures with better-looking, higher-resolution textures. The textures used in some of the rides (mine train, railroad, ghost train, car ride) have also been upgraded. With these new textures, RCTGL looks stunning
    - Lighting
Lighting was simulated in previous versions of RCTGL. Now, it will be applied to all objects. Surfaces, and ride tracks will now have lighting and depth. It will also make coaster tracks look more realistic. The steel twisters will have B&M-style square beam, and steel corkscrews will have Arrow/Vekoma-style round beams.
    - Weather
Well, there won't be much weather. However, I am ditching the atmospheres concept and moving toward a weather system that I generated for a different project. The time of day will change, and lighting will change with it. The weather system includes a full 24 hour cycle, but there will be no night-time mode in RCTGL.....yet (work in progress).
    - Faster
I'm rewriting a lot of the code using techniques that I have learned since I first wrote RCTGL. This will improve the speed for just abot everybody
    - More stable
Many people experienced problems when running Milestone 5. These problems will be fixed with Milestone 6 because I will be using a cross-platform API for all of my windowing and input (I used to use Win32 and DirectInput)

Whew. I'll have some screens up soon.

Thanks Ed...it looks beautiful...better than ever!

I remember the hype about this (Milestone 5) when I was completing Glasshouse....I actually tested the park and designed the Disco Fever area by viewing thru this program. It really helped me to actually SEE the atmosphere I was creating, confirming I was on the right track.

Once it accepts RCT2, I'll be really happy. Rollercoaster Rider is fun to ride our coasters, but is less flexible for viewing the whole park and I really like the walking perspective RCTGL enabled. The aerial view was sweet too.

    Can't wait.

Nice job praise goes to DarkHelmet.

    Thanks,

    Kai :yup:

    Eureka!
I love RCT GL. I use it all the time.

And when I say all the time, I mean once in a while whenever I get bored.

Edit: I don't like how he replaced the grey texture with a grey stone texture. In parks, alot of people use the grey texture for jagged rock siding. In RCT GL, the rocks will have perfect stone formation in their sides... :|''''

When I try and play it, it doesn't work.

    Whats up with that?

how would it ever exist in rct2 with all the custom scenery? ...

although rct1 is good enough for me.. i wanna walk around in my ne invitational, GOD, Mala´s parks, Anti NE presumingly done (right blitz ;) ) and Coaster Ed´s parks, Scheusslers parks, etc, etc, etc,

    thx Helmet guy!

    Hello.

GL was the only reason I even kept interest in RCT to begin with, so this should be interesting...

RCT 2 GL should be the nut if it happens.

how would it ever exist in rct2 with all the custom scenery

Exactly. I don't see any way that it could possibly support custom scenery, since it's impossible to extrapolate a 3D model from 4 isometric views unless you assume each object to be a vertical rectangular prism. But what fun is that?

On the plus side, Wisconsin will look fine.
  • mantis%s's Photo
I'd heard about this before, but never downloaded it.
I'll download this new one though - it looks/sounds cool.

    What was 'milestone 5'?
  • KaiBueno%s's Photo
    For Mantis,

Milestone 5 was the most recent release of RCTGL. After adding new tracks, or rides, as well as scenery or land adjustments, Dark Helmet released an update. Therefore, Milestone 5 is essentially RCTGL Version 1.05, or Version 5, whichever way you want to look at it.

On the plus side, Wisconsin will look fine.

So will Forge, if red water is enabled that is...

...it looks quite odd in Rollercoaster Rider with blue water and some of the tracks painted blueish also...
