General Chat / RCT GL

Whew. I've got a lot of things to respond to here

Thanks for the interest in RCTGL. I really had no idea that it effected people so much. It's good to know that people use it.

    Now, on to some news.
    - The screenshot that was posted now looks different because I fixed the lighting on the rides. Furthermore, I am in the process of adding lighting to other rides as well. I have most of the monorail track and B&M coaster track shaded, and it looks excellent. I will try to post a screenshot when I get home tonight. When you see a section of a lit coaster, your jaw will hit the floor. Granted, it doesn't look as nice as No Limits, but to see it in RCTGL is stunning.
    - In the future, I'll post screenshots and news here, as well as at the Station. I received almost no response here when I posted MS4 or 5 here earlier, so I didn't even think about discussing MS6 here.
    - The problem where walls were always attached to the ground has been fixed. If you have hacked a wall and it is above ground, it now shows up correctly in RCTGL.
    - I believe that I have fixed the problem where Milestone 5 crashes for some people. I changed my windowing and input API to something that's platform independant (I used to use Win32 and DirectX)

    Response time
Kai - If I remember correctly, you even used RCTGL for your park previews online. I know a couple other people did as well. Very cool!

The goal of RCTGL is also to be able to ride your attractions. There's no sense putting this much detail into the landscape and visuals if you can't actually ride anything. Of course, I'll start slow with simple rides such as the train and river ride, and work my way up to coasters and such.

CoasterWizard - The texture you think is a gray wall is actually the standard brick texture with some lighting applied to it. If you look far back at the castle, you will see what the dark grey texture looks like (if you can make it out in the distance). Also, if you don't like a texture, you can always change it out yourself. I didn't use some sneaky encryption / data packing scheme with RCTGL. All of the files are simply images that sit in appropriately named directories (gee, I wonder what's in the 'walls' directory??)

Thorpedo - That was an unresolved issue with MS5. I could never figure out why it didn't work for many people since there was no pattern, and MS5 worked perfectly on every single computer I tested it on (all my computers at home, at my parents house, at work, at school, etc). I made some significant changes to Milestone 6, so this problem should be resolved when I release this next version

EvilWME - I plan on making RCTGL flexible. If somebody is generous enough to create a model for a custom object, all you should theoretically have to do is to drop it in a models directory and RCTGL will load it right up.

cBass - I don't generate anything from the 4 isometric views. I would hope that somebody with some modelling talent could approximate the objects and textures in 3D form.

Mantis - Kai is essentially correct. Milestones are simply my way of versioning RCTGL. I started a long time ago with the first Milestone, and worked my way up to Milestone 5 and, soon, Milestone 6.

    I love you.

BTW, if you ever need a tester... *wink wink*

(look what I've started... there'll prolly be 25 more "I want to test" replies now)

I'm really looking forward to the next Milestone (as many people are and as many people said). :l33t:
  • DarkHelmet%s's Photo
Well, I'll definately need testers for the next release. Corkscrewed, you're in the testing group, if you want.

I just downloaded the most recent version and... :0 Looking at my parks in 3D is astonishing! Just walking around and looking at the stuff i've made puts it in so much more perspective!

Thankyou so much for making this! It's brilliant!

Dark, I'd love to test this as well, if you'd like. I think I spent more time in RCTGL for my park than I have in RCT itself.
  • thorpedo%s's Photo
    Lol. I'll test.

Thanks for the info about MS5, so I won't waste any more of my time trying to get it to work. ;)

I'll be sure to download MS6 though, I'm curious what my parks would look like.

I want a peice of it!!

I remember when this program was just an idea, and really ,you've been far too quiet with it, but you mentioned you haven't posted updates here soo... I could be missing something.

I remember the first versions, they even offered a great perspective of what my parks would look like... i cant wait to see the new version, what are some of the new features?

This is what I get for being a completely RCT-2 dude.

But if RCTGL can be pulled off in the sequel*...then, Mr. Helmet, I would shake your hand.

It looks great so far, anyway, regardless of game.

Both of these shots come from Pyro's Disney Dreams park

Here you can see some of the new high resolution textures, plus some coaster track lighting:

Wow thanks! You were always good at providing updates even before anyone asked for them. The new screens are much appreciated. I can't wait to get my hands on the next version. Excellent work, it's coming along nicely.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
    Oh. Damn.

I can't wait to see this finished... or close to finished. :D
  • sacoasterfreak%s's Photo
    WOW :SA:

That is amazing, I cannot wait for this version to come out and the best part is: it can only get better.

    A new screenshot

    - Almost every piece of track is now lit correctly.
    - Many of the landscape pieces are now lit as well

I also have a moving cloudscape, to give the game a little more realism. Right now, it looks similar to the clouds in No Limits, except mine are slightly less fake, and they change colors as the time of day cycles. The clouds will improve over time, but they look decent at this stage.
