    Oohh....very nice!

The added lighting gives the track a stronger feel than the old version, and the moving clouds sounds really cool.

I look forward to the next release, as I used this as a tool for the last big solo I made (summer 2002), to get perspective from the 'peep' and aerial views. I think it really helped, and was fun at the same time.

    Thanks, and best wishes!

    Kai :huey:

Can't wait for the release of the next milestone. Looks really great!
Just curious though, when can we expect to see tunnels? (like path heading underground.. when we will see the doorway/entrance part)
  • DarkHelmet%s's Photo
CoasterWizard: To do that properly would require rewriting a bit of my code. This will ultimately happen later in this Milestone because I need to speed up the coaster and track drawing code.

For now, I can possibly add black squares to show that a tunnel exists, but you couldn't see inside the tunnel unless you went through the wall. I may experiment with that tonight.

    Oh. My. Gosh.

This keeps on getting better and better. That is definitely the best screen yet, and I think the program's getting to the stage where it could be used and not look totally barren. Meaning, it might be a bit hard to notice some of the incomplete stuff (excluding the coaster lift hill of doom, of course!).

This is crazy cool, and my testing offer is still up (in case you didn't get my PM). :D

LMAO! That's definitely a problem at the moment, along with the invisible loops of dooom © and corkscrews of terror © :D

Great job, Dark Helmet. It looks real-er by the minute!

Its looking really cool, all of it.There is 2 things that i would really like to seee in the final version.

It would be great if there was a auto smoother for tracks so that when (if) u can ride them you dont just get shook all over like on NL conversions or rollercoasterrider.

And the second thing i would like is a control setup or help page ingame cos the last updates always confused me with the controls.

Hey Darkhelmet, nice job! What language are you programming this in? C++? Are you using 3d Studio Max as well?

    Just curious....

Another thing... I honestly hate the control system, and'd be much in your debt if you changed to be NL-style... but that's just me, do what's best for the majority. :)

Glad you all like the new screenshot

Corkscrewed: I got your PM. When I am ready for testing, you're on the list

Mantis: Actually, I already have part of the large half loop completed. The goal is to have the large half loops and the regular loops in the engine when I release the next milestone. I'm not sure when the half corkscrew and half zero G roll will be finished as those are more complex (geometrically)

RRP: I don't know if I can make the tracks any smoother than they are in RCR or in any NL import utility. I can only do so much given the way that RCT tracks are set up (basically one track segment per unit). Thankfully I can tweak the on-ride system as I'm developing it, so I should be able to find something that looks good.

Mystery Mod: It's all in C++. Right now, I don't use any 3D modelling software out there. Everything you see on the screen is calculated in real time by my code. The only outside assistance I used was Photoshop to modify the textures. I will ultimately use 3DS models for some of the structures that I can't reproduce with code, and I'll definately use it for the custom models in RCT2.

Adix: I know what you mean. For the most part, the current control system is like NL's. When you're in free mode and you press the left mouse button, you move to wherever you're looking. When you're in peep mode, the arrow keys plus the mouse determine which way you move. The navigation system has been significantly improved since previous milestones.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Sweet. The nav system used to bother me too.

Anyway, I don't even care if you can't ride your own coasters in RCT GL (though if you could, that would rock). Just exploring the park and looking at stuff is enough!

And thanks for confirming that, DH!
