I aggre , i think ps2 beats all off them as it has the best games , good shape and plays dvds also.
There are several problems with Xbox:X-Box easly, its the most upper class console, and if you look past its size and weight, then it pisses all over the other consoles in terms of specs. Not to mention all of the best PS2 games are coming out on X-Box soon enough.
Amped is the fucking best snowboarding game ever, exclusive to X-Box too.
Dreamcast is also brilliant, I think its better than a PS2 any day, it seems faster and smoother.
1. The controller is awful.
2. It has no good exclusive games.
3. It is heavy.
4. It is very big.
5. You have to spend £20 if you want to play DVD's.
6. It has no good developers making games for it.
7. And furthermore, it has sold the least in UK.
Oh, and 1080 Avalance will shit all over Amped.

I think Gamecube outruns PS2 slightly, becuase it has so many exclusives. But don't get me wrong, PS2 is still awesome... -

Mine would be somewhere between the X-Box and the Gamecube.
The PS2 has nothing exclusive going for it... At all. I can't think of a single good title that the PS2 has that isn't on the X-Box or Gamecube.
Plus, it's incredibly underpowered (the graphics are unbearably bad - possibly because of the lack of rammage and hardware anti-alias... however you spell that shit), and has the worst controller ever designed.
The problem with the controller?
It's too fucking small. I can never hold that shit right. The shoulder buttons are gay, especially for car games (who doesn't dig accelarating and braking on the X-Box or Dreamcast?). The d-pad is where the left analogue should be. And. Well. It's just fucking stupid.
When the N64 was released, instead of rethinking the entire layout of the pad like normal people would, Sony decided to stick two fucking analogue sticks onto it and released it. Making it the most uncomfortably small piece of shit ever.
Meanwhile, the Gamecube has quite a lot going for it, mainly exclusives - Zelda, Metroid... I won't mention Mario Sunshine because that was a fucking waste of disk space.
It has Skies of Arcadia, a direct port from the Dreamcast (I think it's emulated, in fact, like Crazy Taxi). Which is neato, considering how that game kicked shedloads of Kylie Minogue-shaped ass.
The graphics are on the same level as the X-Box, I'd say, or only a few notches down. Lots of neat in-built effects (hardware motion blur and shit... Super Mario Sunshine is fun to just fucking watch).
And it has the best controller ever. It's delicious. I'd eat it if I wasn't afraid of shitting blood (it'd taste better than fucking carrot, at any rate).
The c-stick isn't all that great (not enough range for movement), and the shoulder buttons, while comfy, aren't as good as the ones on the X-Box. Still, though. It is the pinacle of controller goodness. I doubt it'll ever be topped. By anyone. Other than, perhaps, Nintendo, because they know their shit when it comes to these things.
Of course, the biggest negative for the Gamecube is that it's pretty much a failiing system. Like the Dreamcast, it's brilliantly designed, has some truly great games, but will never seriously be able to compete with the PS2 and X-Box. Pretty much every week, another third party abandons it. Sounds like what happend to the N64, to be honest.
Speaking of the BillBox. Stop dissing the X-Box controller, people. It's basically the Dreamcast controller, except fattened up Turtleblob-style. And all the better for it. I can't think of anything wrong with it, except for the weird button shapes.
Besides which, you can always get the S-Pad. Which is even better (with the exception of the stupid placement of the black-and-white buttons) and very close to the Gamecube one in the comfort stakes.
What I dig about the X-Box is how well made it is. Considering the source. I mean, factor in the fact that it has a hard-drive, that fucker is pretty sturdy. I've heard of a guy who dropped and X-Box through a glass table without damaging it. That, right there, is a technological miracle. It's a shame not all hard-drive related products are as reliable (like that stupid-ass Sky+/TiVo shit).
Hilariously enough for a Microsoft product, the X-Box is the only next-gen console to never, ever, crash on me.
Anyway. All consoles should have a hard-drive. Memory cards fucking suck. Plus, you probably can't install Linux on a PS2....
Game-wise, the X-Box catalogue doesn't differ much from the PS2 one. Only advantages it has are the Dreamcast remakes, specifically Project Gotham Racing and Jet Set Radio Future. Both great games, and very underrated as sequels (Jet Set Radio Future was practically a whole new game, and Project Gotham's improved Kudos feature revolutionised it completely.).
Halo is incredibly overrated. It, kind of, you know, sucks. Worst level design since that fucking Skedar level in Perfect Dark. Except, throughout the entire game. Bungie are morons. Why does Halo have such a following? Even the aforementioned Perfect Dark had a co-op mode, admittedly it was practically a slide-show, but still.... Timesplitters so owns it, man.
Co-op Timesplitters = Good Times (incidently - the GameCube version of Timesplitters is superior. Simply because of the controller).
So, in summary. Uh. Whatever. Games are for retards.
Gamewise, Gamecube wins. Hardware wise, X-Box, definately.
This was an amazingly long and unneccessary post, wasn't it?
Yes, it was. I'll tell you what, though. I can only write this shit because I'm too busy not playing games. I think it says something for my loserness that I can write this much about consoles I hardly ever play (I only have an X-Box... And only, like, three games for it).
I'm sure it's to do with the fact that I still read Digitiser daily, even though I'm not interested in games much at all. That, and, I'm a fucking nerd when it comes to newfangled technological gadgets and shit (it's true. I'm far more interested in the consoles themselves than the mostly lame-ass games they play).
Of course, I blame society for this. Society, and, computer game companies.
Games nowadays just aren't... Very good. Really. Are they!
Last truly excellent game I played was Perfect Dark. After that, there was Shenmue (aquired taste, but I loved it), which was too short. Wind Waker. Too short. Mario Sunshine. WAY too short. Metroid. Too short.
Is this some kind of trend I'm unaware of?
Now, look. Games these days gost £35. For, what, two weeks? That's bullshit.
Let's not forget that everything nowadays is just shit they pulled on the N64 and PS, but, like, "better". We still have the same old stealth shit, the same old adventure shit.... It wears me out, it wears me out.
I'm getting bored (again).
And what the fuck happened to RPGs, man? Where the fuck did they disappear to? Remember the SNES? That was some good shit.
Ahh, the SNES.
Ahah.
There is your answer. The SNES is easily the best games console everer. Any old idiot can see this.
I win.
(Dude! You just, like, totally owned Japan!)
[Anyway. Deus Ex 2 will be out soon. And it will stop my whining, once and for all.] -

You made some good points, but I totally disagree about Mario Sunshine. It is a bloody good game and there's no stopping it. It is a bit short, however. And i do get the general feel that cube games are way too short. But i just bought Metroid Prime and it seems pretty damn good so im happy. You see, the thing is, if the games are short, you'll get more more often, so that's a plus side to short games. It depends whether you'd like an Ocarina of Time length game, and wait 3 years, delay after delay, or get a Wind Waker game and only wait 1 year. The next Zelda game and Mario games are now in development...
I don't actually know why all the third party companies ditch Gamecube. Does anybody have any suggestions (and don't just say: because it's crap. becuase that would be very unconstructive wouldn't it...)?
RPGs - Phantasy Star Online, Harvest Moon?
I agree that the s xbox controller is okay, but don't you think they were resorting a bit to make another controller because the last one was so bad?
Oh well, Gamecube rules. And if you say it has no DVD player so it sucks, it's a GAMES CONSOLE, not a home entertainment system.
Oh well, i've waffled on too much, oh yeah, and the SNES rules, but the ultimate machine was always the N64. Ocarina of time, mario kart, banjo kazooie, mario 64, pilotwings, wave race, donkey kong, the memories. -

PS2-- great, great, great games, graphics leave a bit to be desired
Xbox--not so great game (but they have vice city now SMILE!) but beautiful graphics, (but made by microsoft, gets docked half points)
Gamecube--Never liked Mario, never liked Zelda, so I have no real attatchment to the Nintendo franchise, they can go fuck their "minidiscs"
PC-- Potentially the best, but often not, hella-expensive, and becomes quickly obselete, but the game titles are unbeatable, functionality is unbeatable, and grapics are when done right, completely unbeatable.
so I'd say PC, because nothing can top the power of a good gamers computer (which would not be mine) -

Although I use my pc for many other things than gaming, I think it is the over all best, depending on the system of course - I need a new graphics card... *drifts into thought about the ATI Raedon 9800 Pro..*
Btw out of the choices, I own a PS2 and two PCs. -

You neglected to mention that Gamecube offers THE best games, THE best graphics, THE best sounds and THE best controller. There is no other way, Cube RULES...Gamecube--Never liked Mario, never liked Zelda, so I have no real attatchment to the Nintendo franchise, they can go fuck their "minidiscs"

Vice City owns all -

did you look at my list? and VICE CITY IS ON PC ANYWAY... VICE CITY IS NO REASON TO GET A PS2! -
Coaster Ed Offline
Let's see.
Best Graphics=PC (obviously, but you pay for it)
Best Performance=PC (obviously, but you pay for it)
Best Games=PC (more versatile, more realistic, more complex, more multiplayer options)
Best Controller=PC (steering wheels, joysticks, gamepads of all sorts and of course the keyboard and mouse which are still the best gaming peripherals for first person shooters and RPGs)
So the PC blows all of the consoles away. But that wasn't really the purpose of this poll. PCs really aren't gaming consoles. You can play games on them (and they're the best gaming platform around I'd say) but they are not cheap self-contained and devoted to games like consoles are. If I were choosing a console, I would get a Gamecube because the games on it aren't available for anything else and a lot of them look pretty fun. The games are what really matter. For all it's expensive hardware, it's a shame that the PS2 doesn't have more controller ports and better controllers. I refuse to support the X-Box because Microsoft is buying out PC game developers so they produce their games on the X-Box instead. Halo anyone. That's frustrating to PC game fans. My favorite games on any console have always been the RPGs and they've all but disappeared recently. I bought a PS1 solely for the RPGs. And I'm going to have to agree that the SNES was the best console for RPGs by far. The glory days. I've developed a preference for PC RPGs now though. Console games tend to place a premium on reflexes and repeating the same actions. PC games tend to place a premium on environment, story, and puzzles. So PC games in general hold my attention much longer. -

A good friend lent me his gamecube this week. I've been having lots of fun playing with it (mostly Zelda: Wind Waker). The game is like a cartoon, and it's alot of fun, quite addictive. I haven't played PS2 or XBox, but I would probably buy Gamecube if I had to buy one of the three. I really like companies that are original (same goes RCT) and they will get my money. If they put the effort into creating something new, then they deserve the credit. That's a major reason I don't like Universal, it's a knock off of Disney. I prefer Nintendo, because XBox and PS2 are knocks off copy cats. -

the PS2 hardware is NOTHING compared to Gamecube...For all it's expensive hardware, it's a shame that the PS2 doesn't have more controller ports and better controllers.
PS2 spec compared with Gamecube spec. It's clear who the winner is - Gamecube. And why buy a Playstation 2 when Gamecube is about £40 cheaper???
And also if you want a decent PC it will cost you about £700 or more, whereas you can get a specific games console for £80 (Gamecube), £125 (Playstation 2), or £120 (Xbox)... So there we are. -
Coaster Ed Offline
Hmm yes, the Gamecube is more powerful. It should be, it came out a year and a half later. The PS2 is still considerably faster than the Gamecube in Polygon performance, perhaps owing to the faster memory bandwidth. And the PS2 discs can hold 6 times more information than the Gamecube discs. In practically every other category though the Gamecube has the performance edge over the PS2 but if performance were all you cared about, the X-Box is considerably more powerful than both the PS2 and the Gamecube. Performance numbers don't really mean anything though. What matters is the game developers and I'd say Nintendo has always had an advantage in that department.
But the question was which is better, not which is the best value. There will never be games like Half-Life, Deus Ex, Fallout, Battlefield 1942, Myst, Warcraft, or even RCT on any console system. (I know there's a PS2 version of Deus Ex but it's considerably simplified) Complex games like this do not work on consoles. With Half-Life 2 and its incredible 'do anything' physics engine on the way, your money would be better spent on a PC upgrade. If you buy a PC, your hardware options are practically limitless. And while performance is always changing, the flip side is that high end componenets are continually getting cheaper. And don't pretend like you have to buy a whole PC to play PC games. You probably own one already. All you need to buy is better components and yesterday's top-of-the-line graphics card is today's bargain bin find. I can play Warcraft III on my PIII 450 purchased in 1999. There's nothing like Warcraft III on any console. Same with Half-Life, Fallout, and LucasArts adventure games like Curse of Monkey Island and Full Throttle. I can play all of these games on a 4 year old system. There are some console games I'd like to play but the lion's share of the games I want to play are only available on PC. And I've yet to play a console game that can hold my interest as long as the games I've mentioned. Take the example of TIE Fighter, a game released in 1995 available for less than $5 and playable on any computer. It has over 100 hours of gameplay, a better value than any console game ever made. And this is an 8 year old game. -
Panoramical Offline
What you touch on there in your last paragraph are examples of classic games. Yes, you can play nearly all 4 or more year old games on PC. But what you miss out on are the new games, with higher graphical performance than PC. For example, Halo, (not an exactly great graphical game) had to be downgraded before it was launched on to pc. That is why there is more pop up. It depends what you prefer to play really, though. If you prefer to play classics, you'd be better off with a PC, as nowadays, not only can you play old PC games, but you can play console classics that have never been converted to PC, such as The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Banjo Kazooie etc. by simply downloading a console emulator. You can do this with all non-next gen consoles. But then you can't play higher performance games, such as Metroid Prime, F-Zero etc. on PC, because not only could the PC not handle it, but you simply can't play it on PC. However, give a few years, you will be able to play them on PC. The cycle continues.
The fact is though, that most PC games are available on PS2, Xbox and Gamecube.
Just to go to what you said, about PS2 holding 6 Times more memory... yes, they do, but Nintendo sacrificed memory for style. And anway, if you need more memory, put the game on more than one disk, as the Capcom did for Resident Evil on cube. -
Dixi Offline
Those are the PS2's best games. But with my new found knowledge that Pro Evo 3 is on PC, fuck all consoles.and vice city and pro evolution soccer 3 are on pc anyway
ISS 1 and Pro Evo 3 are the single best games in the history of all consoles IMO. Followed closely by the Sonic and Mario series, and also Amped.
