Albeit this is pretty pointless, because... well, yeah.
Anyway, ideally, you would have provided an 'other' category.
As such, I chose a null vote option. :)

Neither. Throw me some classic, whether it be rock, romanticism, baroque, whatever.

    And go Steely Dan.

Rap and Hip-Hop all sound the same to me - there's nothing exactly breakthrough with some of the shite they're bringing out these days. Also, for me, there's nothing I can relate to in the lyrics - basically, all rappers write about is some gansta lifestyle, which I'll never be part of (THANK GOD).

Alternative music has SO many different styles, so many forms, and much new and interesting material comming out. Also, most alternative bands aren't pre-fabricated, and actually use REAL instruments, instead of some patheitc drum machine that's used for nearly every commercial radio song these days.

    Nuff said -

Why limit yourself to one or the other? That is boring.

Rock spans way too wide a range to be a category. It would at least have to be broken down into Punk and Hard Rock, and those are still pretty general. You'd have to start getting into each of the different styles of rock, like Ska, Emo, Nu-Metal, Hard, Death Metal, etc.

Rap isn't actually that bad. I like it somewhat, the people who give rap a bad name are people like Chingy (who shouldn't even count as gangsta rap). He's certainly not the only one, but he's definitely the first who comes to mind. Rappers like that flat-out blow. Some, like K-Os, NWA, and pretty much everyone who isn't a Gangsta Rapper or Eminem is pretty good, they actually have talent and message with their lyrics.

Of course, they're pretty hard to come by today.

I would take "rock", though, because overall, I like the style of music better. But, it's still pretty close, being how general the categories are.

Fallacy. First off, not all rappers are 'gangster' rappers. Second, there are many creative rap artists out there. For example, Kamau, he is the best lyricist of all time. You cannot deny it, just listen (right click and "save target as"):

    Old Soul
    Begging For Change

I guarentee you haven't heard anything like Kamau, ever before. He has so much to say. K-Os is another stand out rapper, with songs such as "Masquerade", "Follow Me", "Patenice", "Heaven Only Knows", or anything off his debut album "Exit". Then if that's not enough, check out "What Dreams Are Made Of" or "Anticipation" by Dl Incognito. For more mainstream goodness, check out "Changes" by 2pac.

Of course, I do not expect you to look at any of the artists I mentioned, but check out atleast one of those Kamau tracks. You will not be dissapointed.

Rap and Hip Hop are 2 different things, get to know the music before you flame it dumbass

kick your self in the ass just for even typing that,

    thank you

I don't know what I would do without my varied taste in music. I love each for its specific characteristics.
I mean, I can go from listening to A Perfect Circle to Britney Spears to Ladytron.
Odd? Uh, duh. Interesting? Most definitely, it makes everything really fun to listen to.

I hope to god one of you listened to one of those tracks I provided a link for. Kamau is so incredible. As for Alchemist L7, considering your post was right undermine, I will assume that was directed at me. This true? Otherwise, mention who you're directing your comments to.
  • Metropole%s's Photo
Nate, I think Alchemist was refering to the actual topic...

Anyway, as people have said, this poll is too general.

    Personally, I like Emo...which is a form of Rock ( I guess)

I like bands such as Funeral for a Friend, Finch and Million Dead.

I'm not a fan of Hip Hop or Rap at all.

Isn't alternative rock a different kind of rock? Isn't it the rock that really sucks?
  • sloB%s's Photo
    No, thats metal.

OK - So I haven't heard of Kamau or whatever - I hear the shit that's played on the radio, and most of it is commercial. Sorry for being so "CLOSE MINDED", if that's what you're basically calling me.
  • natelox%s's Photo
I'm not. No-one knows about Kamau (well, not many). Most of the stuff rappers play on the radio is crap, hence why I don't listen to the radio. Hip hop on the radio does not exemplify what the genre is about.
