Thanks Chapelz. You just proved to me how much of an idiot you are, once again.

Chris, this park was wonderful. Its really too bad most people at the site have their heads stuck so far up their asses, and can't look at it relatively objectively. It seems to me that most people want to hurt this park because it was made by you. If a park is made by artist, it must be copied crap, right? But seriously, how many spotlights and great parks haven't been carbon copies of islands of adventure, or a crap load of SA parks? SA even copies his own parks to a certain extent, yet I'm sure you'll all be praising him (and rightly so) when his new park gets a well-deserved spotlight. This park was more than deserving of a spotlight. I haven't opened it up in a while, but i remember just noticing those rapids, they were wonderful. The lands before time area looked like a mix of Kumba colors that worked. And besides Corkscrewed, no one really even attempts to make dense foliage. Gardens of Eden, minus the clouds Chris, i told you about those ugly clouds!, was absolutely wonderfully themed. Great coaster too. The entrance area is probably the worst one in the park but even it really was quite a lot better than a lot of other stuff floating around. There seem to be a lot of comments towards the medeival area being unoriginal. I'm not saying it was original and out of line, but it wasn't trying to be. I don't remember stuff like this when you saw Raindrop Riviera (sorry Pos, but it's just a park (lovely one ;)) that comes to mind..). Or probably most of the other spotlights... Really, because slob made Gotheburg he suddenly owns a copyright to a medeival area with grey castles and duellers? And people are saying medeival areas with duellers are being done too much, yet i can never find one decent set of duellers when i look for them. I thought the area was very well themed. I probably could never have made such beautiful supports and make the coasters look so much better through theming. And how the hell can you have a problem with guest spots? That doesn't have anything to do with how good the coasters look, their pacing, nothing. Isn't that what people should care about? Can't a collabo be a spotlight as well? Once Anti is finished will people be annoyed Blitz didn't do half the park but WME did some stuff as well? I loved my guest spot as it enabled me to release something again, sort of. And i've been asked for another one that i hope to fullfil even better! And really, making the coasters is a very small portion of the work this park has in it. The theming really takes a lot longer, people, why doesn't anyone notice that? I made the cathedral, btw! lol. Artist touched it up =P. I'm going to end my rambling, and hope to see some comments about the park, not comments about how my duellers were the only good things in the park (albeit flattering), not comments about how you've seen something before (see it again if you must, right?), not comments about how you'd rather not get into commenting on the park because it would get hurtful, not comments about how much it looks like islands of adventure. There have been quite a few nice comments, but far too many that i disgust. And because i see it coming, you can have your own opinion, but make it about the park.

At first the park couldn't really draw my attention (but that was because my skin was burnt and I went paranoide because I had to collect all of my books for schoolinspection... ugh).
I unmediately thought "Tamboora Lagoon '05" due to the large amount of guest appearances and disliked Gaia's supports on inside tophat #2 (they weren't that bad... But those two flat bars on top of it... : / ).

When I watched it again this morning, I realised that the park was far from bad actually. It had some splendid rides and nice theming (fun windmill in the back of the park).

So overall a nice park, congrats : )

 Thanks Chapelz. After 5 years of picking Spotlights I guess we've been doing it all wrong this whole time.

I agree with WME. If this park had been made by anyone else, the praise would be over the top. People love to hate on Artist for some reason. Most of the bad comments seem to be made by the other upcoming parkmakers that used to be in the same tier of parkmakers as Artist. People that have also been in that same spot for a year or more now never releasing anything. Don't try to bring down Artist just because you haven't gotten yourself to release anything. Seems all very jealous and trivial to me. Be happy for the parkmakers around you.

    thank you mark. thank you.

everyone get your open arses out of the wind. i mean honestly...

oh and cork, artist did the logo, heh. i'm having a hard time learning after effects already. i don't need photoshop in addition, thank you :p

ed, watch the friggin vid :@
and what was that about the logos looking uniform? i mean there is no such thing, so no evil non-cork-logo could ever destroy that. not that it should be necessary to keep something like this up in the first place, i think.

eh? I ain't jealous, and you know it.

That said, I see where you are coming from.

Honestly, I can see where iris & WME are coming from. Its so easy to try to bring a parkmaker down based on envy and jealousy of a spotlight win like this. Especially considering that about a year ago, Artist was basically an average joe around here (and not liked by everyone :p) and now he's suddenly a 2x spotlight winner and a prominent member of the community. He's definitely pushed himself into the top tier of RCT2'ers around here. Thats for sure. I'll admit that creates envy for me, but by no means does it mean I'm not going to give my true feelings on the park itself. This park is easily a masterpiece, but this comes back to my statement that its impossible to impress everyone on NE. I'll admit the park itself did not overly impress me, but the accomplishment definitely did. Look at parkmakers like Mala or natelox. They're probably the best RCT players ever and I know of people that despise thier work. So bottomline for me is don't try to bring chris down because you can't acheive his rank. Instead, praise him and use it as motivation for you to improve and become a better parkmaker. Parkmaking shouldn't always be about who's best or who's better than who. Its about having fun, sharing parks and enjoying it as a hobby. Praise is good. Comradery is good. Competition can be good, but don't lose sleep over it.

I know. That's why I found it so amusing that you were like :fuck you: and stuff. ;) (note the exaggeration)

Frankly, Chris has gotten WAY better with graphics since the time he made that logo. And if he'd remade it, I prolly would have used it. Ah well. :D

(But really, he hasn't been bribing me... honest!)

    *waits for the flamage*

Why would someone flame you for that? *confusion*

Anyway I think the reason that seemingly everyone loves to hate Artist is beacuse he's a 2X spotlight winner. Admittedly I like PoM alright but it should've never been a spotlight at least according to the vast majority of the site. I won't go into why or anything but people hate Artist because they feel that he won an award that:

    1- They want
2- They haven't been able to get
3- He got it with a park that was not much better than any other

In the general opinion, as I understand it anyway, this is what happened. Why everyone is still hating IoE is beyond me though. 3 of the 5 areas are worthy of being legends imo and the other two are still of SRU quality or in the case of Hammer Forge, possibly better.

I guess its hard to look at the park not the person... I believe this is definently one of the best parks in a long while. I can see myself walking around it, standing in the lines and to some extent even riding. It's realistic in the sense that the details that I would expect to be there in real life are really there. That's what makes this park special and draws me in.

    No.

There's no denying that this park is copied. None. Does that mean it's crap? Of course not, and it isn't, and I don't think many people are saying it is, but I do think people are getting tired of these cliches, and are dissapointed by their presence, especially in a Spotlight park.

But seriously, how many spotlights and great parks haven't been carbon copies of islands of adventure, or a crap load of SA parks?

Too many. I think that's the problem. It's become a formula. Build a park with this layout, this style, and these coasters, do it well, and win Spotlight. That doesn't sit well with me, and I guess a lot of other people too.
  • iris%s's Photo
Ok...then build a park in a different style and break the cycle. Otherwise...what are you really complaining about?

Agreed. Still it was one of the nicer ioa's but an ioa nonetheless, because its copying people who have drawn inspiration from a park that was made with plenty of great ideas that have become so boring after looking at the spotlights alone. I do commmend you artist for being so productive and only wish I could find the motivation to utilize time that you seem to have. Each aspect of your parkmaking improved yet there was still a lack of sense of concept; granted some things like that tree of life or whatever were pretty clever but in the end you failed to vary enough from the ioa standard and standard is a general impression I got from the park. Things that could have helped could be an intricate planning stage for the overall layout of the park, not having a coaster in such atmospheres as did that rocket coaster, less guest spots would make the park flow better, and constantly walk though your park to see from a guest perspective to improve layout and atmosphere. It was a nice park.

Erm, guys. Cork has made every spotlight logo with the exception of three, and I doubt you could pick out the not obvious one...

In response to what Mark said. I like Chris, I talk to him online all the time, my judgement of the park is not my judgement of him, but thank you for telling me that's what it is. Maybe you are the one who needs to remove his head form his ass.

I'm not engrossed with RCT like I used to be. I don't really look at RCT2 parks much anymore. With my limit knowledge of RCT though, when I first saw this park I thought "typical." Water in the middle, outlaying themes. Lot's of steel coasters. Predictable themes. Yes. I realize that there are only so many themes people can do. Chris pulled of the Dino area perfectly, and the pirate area was pretty good, but I felt like the rest of the park suffered from being so damn boring. I've seen atlantis/eden/rome 10000 times, if there isn't something new and fresh in it, I don't want to see it.

Just my opinions. Don't tell me I have my head up my ass because I don't. Thanks. We really ought to drop the fucking logo thing. It's really silly.

I don't understand how being an unproductive parkmaker automatically means that you're not warranted to criticize a park. I definitely see where the argument is coming from though, in that it seems like the critics make themselves out as hypocrites.

But just because someone finishes a park on a relatively large-sized map automatically means all prospective parkmakers should bow down to them? When I look at all the comments in this topic, I don't see a single prospective parkmaker criticizing artist's productivity. If that were the case, then yes, there would be hypocrites. Granted, a lot of these critics, myself included, have indeed not made a park of this quality and size. But you have to understand, a non-parkmaker is not just there to build parks. They actually have opinions too. Look at it this way, you don't see directors of movies yelling at movie critics who left them bad reviews saying "why don't YOU make something this good!" That's just bad sportsmanship. Other people's cases may be different, but I know for me at least that I enjoy having opinions on parks as well as making them. They are two completely separate different things. And I must say that I do respect artist for this park, as I do with all parkmakers who complete parks. Because even though I didn't enjoy it, I did enjoy looking through it and establishing an opinion on it. I don't criticize parks as a form of passive-aggressive jealousy, but simply because it's fun to criticize, judge, and talk about parks, just like it's fun to play rct.

Now, the only reason I'm not leaving a full critique is because I'm a bit wary of it. Last time I bashed a park, I remember everyone jumping down my throat. So unless we want Pyramid Connection v.2, I've learned to keep my mouth shut.

I dunno about you guys, but I think Artist Spotlights are great! Guaranteed four pages of replies within a few days... "lively" discussion... people getting motivated...

And actually, I've made all but NINE Spotlight logos. :p

I'm with Jacko on this one.

Can't a collabo be a spotlight as well?

Yes it can but atleast call it then and don't say it was a solo.
  • natelox%s's Photo

Ok well I'm just going to post this as a suggestion to Iris and Cork to check for in Spotlight Parks.

    1.  Check for random floating blocks. They annoy me and I'm sure they annoy others and it's not like they don't stick out. Look for them.

    2. If a building is labeled a cafe I want some goddamn coffe or cake on the inside not just a building.

    3. Make sure each area had atleast some though behind it. I mean a hotel in the center of a park that is just stupid and I'm not just picking on Chris here I have seen some other stupid things in spotlights were I just thought "Did they even think that over for a minute?"

    4. Coaster Variation. If I were a wooden coaster I would feel like a red headed step child.

    5. Make sure the park path flows and doesn't just end at some point so people have to work through the rest of the park to get back out. Now wouldn't it be a bitch if IoA had no bridge connecting Seussland and Port of Calls? Yeah it would.

    6. Have the best coaster in the park be made by the park's creator. It shouldn't have to be said but I guess it does now.

    7. Have atleast two areas that use a new theme or atleast give a done theme a new look or a different way fo doing that theme.

    8. Don't make a park spotlight merely to livin up the site.

    9.  Limit guest spots to only two parkmakers. Honestly its not called a solo for the hell of it.

    10. Run it by me first.  :p BTW I know half the site is going to think I'm an ass after this but O well.

I agree with most of those, well one through eight atleast. Those are just some basic ground rules right there. And for the record, I do not agree with Evil WME's post. I may argue it another day when I am not so tired.
  • Jellybones%s's Photo
There shouldn't be rules for a Spotlight. Ever.

I trust Iris and Cork's judgement.

Even if maybe they get one wrong every now and then. But, such is life.

I don't like this park. Maybe Iris, Corky, or whoever picked this one out did. Who am I to argue that? It's their decision. It's what they like. That's pretty much what the NE Spotlight is. You can't say, "Oh, Spotlights musn't have a lake in the middle!" Maybe a park comes along that is way awesome and not just another IOA style park with a lake in the middle, but this awesome non-IOA park has a lake in the middle nonetheless. What are you gonna say, "Sorry son, it was very original and awesome, but lake in the middle? THAT'S NOT ORIGINAL AT ALL! To the Ad District with your silly park! NO SPOTLIGHT FOR YOU!"

They can't say that. That's stupid.

So you guys can bitch about what should and shouldn't be a Spotlight, or bitch about what qualifies this and doesn't qualify this as Artist's "solo park", or bitch about logos (seriously?!?). But fact is that people have opinions, and RCT parks are subjective. It's Iris and/or Corky's opinion/s that matter in determining NewElement Spotlight, and that's the way it is. That's the criteria.

I've said my piece. Bitch on, if that's your thing.
