Took a bit of time to clock the theme but when I did I think I started enjoying the atmosphere more and seeing the little hints of Zaun theming and references here and there. The palette is a little difficult as has been remarked, I think it does help make the pinks and blues pop out nicely among the graffiti and the glowing coaster vibe, but the downsides are in the washing out of the other shades. The theming is good, and I also like the various peep crows adding some extra life and busyness. The rapids dropping through the dive loop is a great piece of interaction, though the rapids otherwise is a bit fenced off. I think the overall map macro could stand to be a bit clearer - it's not just the colours but how the buildings sort of blend together without a strong profile. There are a few distinctive buildings such as the larger tower and the station that are really nice however, and anchor the respective areas of the map. The ambition in the map is clear and commendable, so well done Scoop!
I've tried to avoid reading others' reviews of all the entries but I did catch some bits of a few and I can say I'm glad I'm not the only one that didn't realize it was based off Arcane right away. The didn't even catch it until my second viewing, but I'm glad I did because it helped me enjoy it a lot more! I really love the references to the show all over the place but it is cool that the main coaster is basically Jinx. I do find that that is the weakest part however. The coaster being bright blue is the only reason it gets any attention, because the rest of the entry is very well done and detailed. It is a bit drabby, but I can understand that given the setting. I just wish the coaster was given more room to shine. Also, I do think music would have helped a lot here too. But really, the rest is so very well done. You have created some iconic structures and deliciously gritty waterways. It is a very great park. As a park, I would like to give it an 80, but as a design and for the sake of the contest, I think it's a 75.
I've never seen Arcane. I enjoyed this just for what it was. I don't really have any great insights. I like the tower around the top of the first drop. The rapids were nicely set in the landscape and since the water was a different color than normal, it made them stand out. I also liked the suspended train. In spite of being a bit content heavy for a design release, I enjoyed it on the whole so I'd give it an 80.
-Concept: **
Although I'm not familiar with League of Legends or the TV series Arcane, I get what you were going for and the steampunk-esque concept was executed well I felt.
-Content: ***
So much content to go through, mainly on the architecture end. Sometimes a bit too overwhelming, like in the station corner of the map, but overall on the right side of the line. Great supporting rides though, especially loved following the monorail along on the main view.
-Quality: **
Overall high consistent quality throughout, although the stacking of architecture and therefore blocking some views hurt the quality of the whole a bit imo.
Overall;
I enjoyed the unique vibrant steampunk-ish setting. Some very unique color concepts used here and the interaction of the supporting rides with the main coaster and the architecture was very well done. Also love the bits of foliage on the rock formations.
The different materials used in the architecture also were very nice to see. The glass, the dither/gradients, the pipes, the animated objects.. They all make for a great visual.
The gathering of peeps on the balconies of some buildings and on the streets gave me some ''the Yards'' vibes, which is always very good
I know almost nothing about Arcane except I want to eat Vi's gender very very badly. This kicks ass.
+ This place feels so lived in! Love the crowds of peeps everywhere.
+ I don't hate the palette! Even if it was darker than you anticipated, it has a nighttime feel without being completely unintelligible. Neon lights add some really great contrast too. Between the flashing neon lights, the elevated walkways, and the buildings everywhere, this does feel like an AVC build even if not intended to.
+ Shimmer Rush is such a fun supporting layout! I almost wish it had a vibrant neon color like the main coaster. Changing the spine to neon pink while keeping the other colors intact makes it stand out a lot more without taking away too much focus.
+ Really unique cast of supporting rides. Hexyman Techspress is such a cool framing device and those supports kick ass. Station is really cool too. I also love the rapids elevator lift and how it goes through the immelmann.
- To be honest, I don't think this is doing much for me on a macro level. The square map shape and similar looking elements all the way through almost take away from the shape of the coaster and compete for focus.
Scoop, this was super ambitious, I really commend you for that. You created some really strong visuals here that really stuck out to me, almost impressionistic in a way. It reminded me of a lot of things but also felt very different. Did find myself struggling a bit to view the map though, as others have commented on. Would have appreciate a bit more macro focus and perhaps less crowding around the coaster. Regardless, 75% is what I will rate it.
No doubt, this entry has a lot going for it. The scale and details are off the chart. Sadly these fantasy parks are tough for me to get my head around both from a concept but technical aspect.
I did enjoy looking around and the suspended monorail was really stood out for me along with the bridge work. Both really caught my eye in a good way. Sadly, the main element of the design was lost on me and didnt seem to be the star of the show. That said, even though this is not my cup of tea, I do appreciate the effort and skill and had this not been a design focused entry, my take on it would be different. That said, congrats on the Design.
