earns Elite Parkmaker
I knew Steve was special the first time I met him. He sent me some WIP LL he'd dabbled with over AIM messenger, some 20 odd years ago. Nothing that would've taken him more than an hour or two, and yet it became easily apparent: here was someone with a special talent for RCT. He felt so at home with the game and the brand of romanticised realism. An evergreen genre of RCT rooting back to the birth of showcase parkmaking, Steve took its torch from famous players like sacoasterfreak and sloB, and would significantly influence the style in years to come, long before we would see pants and A n d r e w emerge.
Steve was a constant. 2009's
Fenrir saw him
first crack the 80% hurdle,
retroactively making him NE Parkmaker come NE5 in 2013. As the game was
taking rapid developments towards
more technical realism, Steve showed us that romantics don't die, landing a spotlight in 2017 with
Veteris
Shores, then less than 1% short of the 85%. Several remarkable H2H performances followed in what were
the intense seasons of H2H9 and 10, unforgettably edging out the Jazzcats' victory in latter finals.
How far can Steve take his style? The answer is the above
Macaw! His
would-be
NEDC6 that he took time to deep-dive on, to search, to push, and to level up big time, as Steve shoots right
above the 90% mark and wins the accolade at a whopping 92.00%! As of today, this places as an
unbelievable second best scored Design of all time at NE, only 0.69% behind the legendary
Kumba. We
thought the NEDC6 heavyweights that shook up the 90%+ range only recently were a singular occurence. Well,
Steve's park tops even them.
Dear Steve, thank you for your gift. Thank you for letting our dreams fly with every map you make, for finding the words in RCT to tell us about elegant, sophisticated, warm and atmospheric parks, over years and years. Take these new red shiny feathers that you've been deserving for so long, as we welcome you as the newest of the select Elite Parkmakers.
King shit king shit king shit! So gorgeous Steve, and I think this sets the new high water mark for backstage area design.
It's just incredible how you've managed to keep within a similar style for years, constantly iterating and elevating with each new build. Yet for such a disciplined honing of your craft your work is always so lively— whimsical and mature at the same time.
If anything, I think this map is slightly overdetailed. The paths feel slightly cramped with all of the carts, seats, planters, and strollers. I wish some places were just one tile wider. That being said, the level of detail and specificity in each of these little scenes is incredible.
Steve. Congrats on the red name. Sooooooo well deserved with this. I'm glad you didn't rush it at the end. That had to be tough to work so hard to get this completed for NEDC and not get it submitted however, I'm glad you pulled it to finish it how you wanted.
Some of the things I loved about this.
- The carousel is gorgeous
- All the little path work items. Adds so much life and the level of detail really fits the overall theme
- The queue line is simply the best I have seen.
Congrats on the design and red name one again. So well deserved
Steve, this might be my favorite piece of RCT ever, it is pretty much perfect. Just an savant level creation here, you thought of everything, every detail, façade, path twist, support, roof, arch, column, tree, shrub, fence, railing... just flawless. Never thought we'd see something surpass the micro of Belle Isle, especially not so soon, but here we are, let alone with such incredible macro too. And I really think that's what solidifies this as one of the greatest ever (certainly the greatest design ever if I say so myself), you just know exactly where to put stuff. So simple, yet also so hard to get right. It just feels exactly correct, like the best of IoA or Disney could possibly create.
Maybe my only complaint, and this is the ultimate nitpick, is that the transfer track isn't really reachable by utility vehicles in it's current arrangement. Maybe raising the queue to station level sooner, enclosing it sooner, and putting a little road underneath would have solved that, but again, an insane nitpick that I just had to include because its you.
Just incredible, it gets a 100% from me. And your red name is more than deserved. Congrats and thank you.
