so eh, you improved a couple of things, which is nice. but still not much has changed. i do think it is a lot better now, but i'd just remove the wooden supports

    because we give constructive criticism?

Good decision version1. Might as well stop posting if you are going to act like a victim.

It's not because of you. But if I play a game for 2 years and can't really tell if something is good or bad and if I'm not getting better at the game, I thinks it's time to quit.

  • csw%s's Photo

Well what do you expect when you title your screen "Jungle Spam"...

Edit: The correct reaction to criticism is not to lay down and quit. My suggestion is to build whatever you feel, see what happens. Don't even visit NE if it means you can build what you want. Not everyone is going to like everything, so just give it some time and see what you can come up with. If you want to surprise us, build an entire project without showing a screen to anyone. What's the worst that can happen?

Edit 2: Realized I never gave a comment on the screen. I like the splash ride station building thingy, and the coaster could be pretty cool. I suggest a recolor though. Also the foliage needs a bit of more diversity, but overall this is nothing to get down about.

I think I might just do that and release the park when it's done. It just is a bit frustrating for me. I released a project almost 2 years ago and got 33% in the panelist voting. My last project got a 42% by the community vote, which would be around 33 or 35% in the old system.

But what really brings me down is getting told, that I see my work better than it is. Well, that's kind of a dangeroud place for a RCT player to be in. And it can really drag me down. When I build this area and posted the screenshot, I thought it was pretty decent. But the comments and the score told me, that I don't have a good understanding of the game itself. Part of why I was so upset about it was, because I thought, that you guys are right. I'm more angry at myself, that I basically live in Theme Parks and can't build shit in RCT, plus doing the same mistakes I have been doing for two years. I just feel like not moving forward overall. I look at other NCSO screens and think to myself "hey, this is really good, why can't I do something like this?" I just seem to lack a good eye for textures and architecture, and that's just bad.

I apologize to you guys for being a dick about this and I really think it is better to quietly build this without posting more screenshots.

One more thing, to help you improve: give each building a purpose. Make each one look different. Choose a few colors/textures, and put them in every building, but in different ways. Get creative. It's the same with the foliage. Build in clumps, don't use trees and shrubs as filler. Put little grassy areas, ponds, rocks, or just dirt patches in between clumps of foliage. For coaster layouts, I don't have much to say as mine are usually pretty wacky. Just be sure to give big elements breathing room (preferably next to/over a path or other ride, but not drowned in trees) and avoid flat, boring sections. Hope this helps.

The last thing we need is people quitting! Keep it up bud! You'll get there!

Have you tried working with CSO. A lot of the time, it gives you more experience which is valuable when coming to work with NCSO.

Also, you don't have to go for realism, but recreating something from real-life really helps. It gives you knowledge that you can take on to better your own creations.

Same goes for taking someone else's work as inspiration. I know everyone all ripped on Shotguns for copying robbie all those times, but look at him now, he is a better player for it.

Let me tell you that Rollercoaster Tycoon is not something to get an existential crisis over. Stop being depressed and angry over a game.

It isn't just RCT, but it certainly adds to it.

    RCT ISN'T A GAME IT'S A WAY OF LIFE

Here's an important question, Version1: is your way of enjoying the game compatible with NE's competitive system?

Having fun is most important. Don't build for accolades (though getting accolades is fun too, of course), especially if you don't gain any satisfaction from it. That said, I think you could win an accolade. For this you need to adjust your style to the NE tradition a little, or come up with an original alternative (think Colorflood for example).

Furious Bronco was pretty good, I just gave it a 50% rating. It has multiple good ideas, clear composition and clean execution. Even the woodie layout was great. An accolade is not out of reach for you.

  • Poke%s's Photo

Just build for yourself for a while. Don't think about anyone else. Build what you want and what makes you happy. Find your style and develop on it.

  • Faas%s's Photo

And go outside for a while to experience how beautiful the world can be.

Thank you guys for all these great comments.

You know, over the past few months I had the feeling, that I was just a small, unimportant part of this community. But here, you clearly showed, that you care about every single member of NE.

I honestly have no idea, why I was just so pissed about all of this. I guess I was in a bad mood. But all of your advices really helped me to decide, how to approach the rest of the park. I think I will finish this quietly and try to improve as much as I can. I don't really aim to get an accolade, but it certainly would be awesome to get one.

Again, I want to apologize for my behaviour yesterday and thank you, for being so considerate.
