General Chat / I'm coming to Disneyland!

Space Mountain broke down at least twice yesterday.  Sounds pretty dumb IMO, since the ride is like five months old and just reopened after a 1.5 year retracking.  *sigh*

We're in Anaheim from Sunday the 15th til Tuesday the 24th. We will probably get 4 day passes for Disney, and are uncertain exactly how we will be spending the rest of our time. I was going to avoid Disneyland on the holiday Monday but I'm sure we will be there on Tuesday and Wednesday, then will see what else we want to do before deciding on the last two days to visit the park. If anyone wants to try to meet up at some point in time, I would be game to give it a try, so let me know what's up. Also, if anyone has any 'must see' activities to fill up the rest of the week, I'd be wide open to suggestions.

I do have one specific question...Where's the closest nice place to spend a day near the ocean. It doesn't have to be (and preferably wouldn't be) a beach. My sister is coming and her kids have never seen the ocean, so it's important to her to get them there.

One more thing...where's the 'secret' bar at Disneyland?

Well, Knott's is always worth a trip for a day, since you can get coasters in. Same with Six Flags Magic Mountain, which is 45 minutes to an hour away without traffic.

As for seeing the ocean... you'll probably have to go to a beach to do so. Nearest beaches are the Orange County beaches. Huntington Beach is pretty popular, though not necessarily the cleanest beach in the world (not horrible tho). Balboa/Newport Beach is pretty nice. The area is upper class and stuff. Balboa Island is sort of like a little fun area, with a ferris wheel and various carnival type stuff.

The Santa Monica Pier is a bit far from Anaheim--probably 45 minutes to an hour as well--but is famous for it's rides and stuff, and its street performers. Although it's not a "must-see" IMO.

Universal Studios is 30-45 minutes away and is a full day park. CityWalk is a pretty cool place to visit as well, especially at night. It's much more dynamic than Downtown Disney IMO.

As for the secret bar... I've forgotten. Unless you're referring to either Club 33 (which is not open to the public) or that special Fantasmic evening desert thing where you can have desert and wine from the Disney Gallery and great views of the show as well.

And yeah... you should also go on a day when FANTASMIC is showing, because it is an absolutely amazing show as well. :) It plays 9:00 and 10:30, so if Disneyland is open past either of those times, I'd imagine it'd be playing that night.

Fantasmic doesn't play on night's it closes at 8 or earlier.

Dunno if you've seen this or not, but here's a link to the Disneyland site where you can check out what's going on at the whole resort that day.

Ed, Blitz, in case I forget to call you, do you want to hit the resort on Sunday the 15th? Toon will be there by 4, we hope, but we can do the whole day as usual. Only catch is you'd prolly have to pay, since I think that day is blacked out for sign-ins. Ed, if it's any consolation, you'd finally be able to ride Space Mountain that day! (unless it breaks down the whole day, and in that case, it just wasn't meant to be  :p ).

Anyway, lemme know. I've got these nifty 4-day play passes that I can use for one park per visit. We'd only be doing Disneyland, but there's nothing in DCA aside from the new Monsters Inc ride (which may or may not be soft opened) anyway. :D

    sounds fun ^_^

It'd be cool if you could be there!

My tentative schedule for Disney is:

Sunday the 15th when we arrive (because I won't be able to wait) which hopefully means we can be at the park from around 4:00 til midnight.

Tuesday the 17th & Wednesday the 18th are for sure.

And probably Saturday the 21st and Monday the 23rd to finish up our 5 day passes.

The rest of the time will be Universal, Sea World, a day at the ocean with whale watching and one free day that we'll play by ear.

I have one question for anyone who has insight:

We are going to Universal Studios on the holiday Monday. Are the front of line passes worthwhile or a total waste of money?

    5 more sleeps!

If you spend the whole day there, you don't need them. Last time I went to U.S. was in the middle of the summer, with the park PACKED, and we did everything easily in one day (literally, every ride and show).

Just head to Mummy first. It's down the escalators. I think they open it half an hour after the rest of the park though. And if you really don't want to wait a ton, then use the single rider's line. Holiday Monday shouldn't be as crowded as you think tho, at least not as crowded as Sunday would be.

Is HH still gonna be going next week? We went yesterday and I was surprised they still had it open as HHM.

Monster's is now practically fully-on open. It's advertised all over the place, inside and out of the park. The tram peeps tell you about it and everything. It's alright... pretty good actually for a replacement. The doors thing is neat, as are the effects in some parts. They used the same cars as the limo's, just repainted as taxi-cabs too, so no new vehicles as Allison and I thought they would.

Park was dead yesterday too. We got there at... 1, and got on everything @ DCA & DL by nightfall. Space was only a 20 min wait, but got to 30 once the DCA crowd came back into DL after 6 with all their fp's.

Anywho, we're prolly gonna go back next Tuesday just cause once again. If you wanna meet up (Toon, or whoever), that'd be cool.
  • Toon%s's Photo
HH closes on Wednesday the 18th, so it's on our list of to do's on Tuesday and maybe Sunday night.

As for next Tuesday, I'll be there so give me a time and a place and we can hook up for a while.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
I'm confused... exactly what are you referring to by "HH?"
  • Toon%s's Photo
I'm sure he meant Haunted Mansion, and Holiday Haunted Mansion....I just replied using his shorthand.

    Maybe I'm wrong???

    4 more sleeps!

    HHM being Holiday Haunted Mansion.
HH being mistyped as Haunted House but I meant Haunted Mansion.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
Okay... I thought so but wasn't sure. Cuz it's Haunted Mansion Holiday (HMH), and of course, Haunted Mansion (HM). :D

BTW, Toon, right now, we're 80% sure we can make it, with Ed to give me a definite soon and Chris to re-confirm. And my friend Greg to confirm again that he can definitely, without a doubt, get us in for free. :)
  • Toon%s's Photo
Sounds great! Ed, if you're out there....you know you wanna ride Space Mountain! Had a shitty day with the hotel trying to raise our rates due to some conference in town next week. Sons of bitches  Seems to be fixed now, but I'm still mad.

Here's the problem for me. I'm having some fairly serious car trouble which will probably result in me not having a car this weekend while it's getting repaired. If I can't get it fixed before Sunday, I definately can't drive it down to Cerritos and back in it's current condition.
  • Toon%s's Photo
    :(

    Hope it get's fixed.
  • Corkscrewed%s's Photo
    :( :(

Guess that's why I didn't get a call today. Erm... hope it gets fixed in time.
  • Metropole%s's Photo
Yeah, there really isn't all that much to fit in at Universal Hollywood and those front line passes are extortionately overpriced I seem to remember. But it was a fun day nevertheless, the Mummy was very cool as was JP River Adventure (but I'd already been on the one at IOA)
