i like the version of nude that was on meeting people is easy. the new one just doesn't do it for me.
  • catachresistant%s's Photo
Arpeggi, All I Need, Reckoner, House of Cards and Videotape are the only good songs on this album.
  • postit%s's Photo
    This album is a grower.

My first listen was kind of like, "is this it?"

But I think this is in there with the great albums. Definitely top 5 for me. Jockying with Amnesiac and The Bends for number 3.

    Reckoner is like this:

And Videotape is growing on me....so slowly...

Videotape IS striking a nice chord with me recently. I think Pitchfork summed it up nicely.

Any other band, and a crappy song would have just been a crappy song. Because it's the almighty Radiohead, though, we just HAVE to force ourselves to like every song.

Relax, guys. If you don't like "Videotape", you're probably smarter than the people that think you just don't get it yet.
  • catachresistant%s's Photo
    No.

    Radiohead mostly blow.
    But Videotape is good.
  • catachresistant%s's Photo
It's mostly fanboys who hate it.
Cuz it's not as dumb as their other songs.

    Look, this is a period:

You're right. I shouldn't have given Kid A more than 3 listens because it wasn't sounding great to me. I should listen more to music that sounds good on the first listen like the shit on the radio, like The Heinrich Maneuver.

Now that I've initiated this, I realize it will result in about 5 pages of back and forth. So I'm really not interested in that. I'm just saying that the practice of letting a song grow on you is not absurd.

Of course one may point out that Kid A didn't receive universal acclaim and isn't considered wonderful by all, but the point is, again, that it is widely considered their best.

I only listen to music that sounds good first time.

    Life's too short.
    Too short.

There's a difference between letting a song grow on you and forcing yourself to like something. It's just a band. You can eventually grow accustomed to anything if you try, like beer, animal porn, wine, classical music, bondage, etc.

Seriously, I know we're all pretty particular about our music, but if you're not interested in a discussion, a "forum" is not for you.

NewElement is no forum. It's just my very elaborate blog.

    Valid responses.

I don't like the Heinrich Maneuver. I assumed it sounds good on the first listen (to other people) because it is a single and a popular one at that. When I heard it, I was like, "what the fuck is with all the guitars?" I thought it was pretty clear that I dislike it when I said "shit on the radio" but you are probably being sarcastic anyway.

And Midnight Aurora, I am interested in discussion but you know me, I like only fanboyism, which is why I reacted to a trace of a dissenting opinion. Actually, I have plenty of experience with not liking a song and then loving it over time, so I tend to disagree with your philosophy, and there are plenty of Radiohead songs that I don't like. That is all. I also added that nifty disclaimer because I've observed plenty of times where you have a back-and-forth with people that goes on and on. Basically, I didn't want to pick a fight with you because I know you will be more than willing and more than able to.

the second disc is so much better.

    I don't have my diskbox...

It's just another thing for me to look forward to on the 17th when I go home.

In Rainbows has grown on me... Pretty much every song works for me now, though Faust Arp, Nude and Videotape are definitely weaker than the rest of the album. Reckoner -> House of Cards -> Jigsaws might be the best three songs in a row... ever...

Oh and I don't automatically love everything Radiohead does, but I certainly give them more of a 2nd chance than most other bands.

    Second disc.

    More like filler disc.

    Hahaha.

    In conclusion,
Kid A>Hail to the Thief>Amnesiac>OK Computer = In Rainbows
The others are too shit to even think about.
