This was a tough one for me, although it seems i've fallen in a similar place to a lot of others. I did feel like it deserved design, the skill level on show here was pretty high. My overall feel was that this was someone who obviously knows how to build, but this theme overall felt slightly surface level in a way? I liked everything that was there, kinda wished there was more of everything though. But like I said, more than enough skill level on show, and clean use of objects throughout to pull it off.
++ Flawless map to me, I adore your CSO work a lot but your NCSO has exactly the same charm
++ Your ride design is always great, I’ve told you this before but the forward and backwards snake is a great example on how players like you and Hex have got a really good POV when it comes to adding distinct attractions to your parks. Mato was another one, really dig your style.
+ Loved the accent objects you choose for mostly an NCSO release, the raven and witch objects just added a bit more plot and I think I could’ve said this was built by you, if I didn’t know you’d built on this.
+ The castle walls with walking knights around it was great and framed the whole park really well
-I wanted more from the rapids but I thought the placement of it was great and I loved how it framed some of the core elements of the coaster.
It was a complicated choice, two great works that feature castles and I'm a big fan of castles. The queue for the roller coaster was excellent, in the middle of the plantation. And you also made another roller coaster, which helped make the park cooler than it already is. And if that wasn't enough, you also made the FLOATING, very good. "SEXY SWIRLS" haha I loved it. Good idea with the canvas roofs.
The Roman soldiers were nice and the soldiers walking on the walls very cool. I liked everything, but what I especially loved the most was the station, which was TOP. Looking at the map in general, the roller coaster went perfectly with the environment, the choice of colors and supports created a very pleasant and clean atmosphere. nice work
As part of this series reviewing the fantastic NEDC6 entries, I will enter into a commentary on how the builders have decided to approach using Pacificoaster’s layout, and how those decisions compare and contrast one another. I encourage reading all my reviews on NEDC6 to get the most out of this more fragmentary commentary you will find interspersed here if you find this interesting or desire clarity.
What is it with this character and witches and moss? At least we know what to get AJ for christmas. A fairly modest entry with solid fundamentals, Metal Moss shows that AJ has their own defiant style. A tasteful blend of NCSO and specific CSO additions, this makes for a classic feel with a more modern sheen. The castles are tastefully composed, and the motif of the roman pillar with flowers on top is a really cute choice.
I believe the main viewing angle is “inside L”, where the cobra roll appears beneath the predrop curve. We, of course, have a path which crosses the track where the cobra roll begins and ends. This moment is nicely framed on an island formed by the rapids ride. The layout is artfully framed dancing over and under the curtain walls, providing ample context for the coaster. I don’t think it necessarily pushes the envelope, but shows good instinct nonetheless.
The rapids ride is a surprisingly harmonious supporting ride. With a final splash framed by the diagonal bridge as you enter the area, the ride provides enough interest, even if it isn’t mindblowing. I think the main thing I have to say is that I recognise the skill, but my interest isn’t necessarily fully captured.
Overall I find this to be an incredibly competent submission displaying AJ’s style and confidence. It didn’t, however, leave me astounded. I would have loved to see some of the macro ideas pushed even further to really accentuate the strengths of your style. Always looking forward to whatever you build us next.
Score: 75% except presented by a moss covered witch
This might have been one of the harder ones for me to score. I think what threw me off that I didn’t initially realize is that it seems like it’s trying to be NCSO but it has these CSO inclusions that fit in but also don’t at the same time. The overall aesthetic is distinctive and unique - particularly the different architectural elements and the foliage (I love how verdant everything feels) - though I fear this castle may not be well designed against invaders! 70%
69? Nice. This is the closest thing to a 'pure' NCSO park this contest so far and it does not disappoint.
One thing I always look for in these contests is ride interactions with the main design. The river rapids and its queue make for such a good interaction in this as they give the peeps a good view of the cobra roll. The coaster itself interacts very well with the castle wall, I love how the corkscrew travels over it and then it moves under the wall. The single-rail supports are also very nice here.
The most impressive thing about this design for me is how well it appears to break away from the grid despite it being NCSO. The diagonal walls, paths, and especially the terraforming look very nice here. I love the island that is surrounded by the rapids. The foliage is also very well done... it's sparse where it needs to be and clumped together in all the best spots; I can tell that a lot of planning has gone into this park.
Overall, this is some nice, pleasant NCSO that definitely shows a ton of skill behind it.
Classic AJ style. The NCSO foliage here is great, the use of the green garden objects to make deeper grass and transition smoothly to the taller clusters of trees make the landscape so flowing and natural.
Inside the castle I really like the design of the pathing and the rapids ride, a lot of great guest sightlines, and a nice main drop centerpiece. Overall great atmosphere, the, setting, landscaping, foliage and music all work well together.
Interesting choice of NCSO with some additional objects. nincso? or AJCSO? I think it was well executed regardless of what we call it! I think how you stuck to an overall workbench but add little touches of personality was a win.
The main B&M was solid. Has some great interaction with the castle elements and the rapids ride. As Lurker said, great guest sightlines!
One thing I enjoyed quite a bit was some of the theming around the map, namely the haunted house and the crooked house used as theming on the rapids ride. Never seen that done before!
Lastly, the little porch where Nina West is is lovely.
It’s nice to see an entry that is so distinctively AJ. The fort’s walls were really well-executed from a technical perspective, especially given that they are NCSO. You used such simple objects, but the end result was believable and impressive. Your foliage is on-point as always, and I love that you have such a unique style when it comes to foliage and landscaping. The supporting rides were also nice, and I especially liked the shuttle coaster, which had a cool ending spike element. Also, the curvy drop on the river rapids ride was sweet. My only suggestion: might it have been better to extend the fort/castle walls all the way around, so they form a complete loop? Either way, a lovely entry from you, and one that I am happy to see. The music choice was also lovely and perfect for the map!
I just love that you were able to build this so quickly. It adds an air of free spiritedness and easy fun which is quite infectious. As always, your beautiful naturalistic design talent comes through, and I'm not sure we've seen many who can make perfectly flat land look so organic and interesting just by object placement.
Good use of modern ORCT2 tricks too. Just sometimes certain aspects feel a bit too abrupt to me. Like a sudden wall in the path, even though you'd sunk it in a little. Some bits looked like you were okay with a sub-optimal solution for speed's sake. I don't think it's always worked in your favour, like for instance the doubled up windows that look a little frankensteined.
Another super earthy and naturalistic entry. I love the foliage in this one, the swathes of green gardens used to paint the landscape with curvatures and peppering in the thicker clumps of trees. Like some other entries, blending in the occasional cso object yields nice results and the theming is very evocative. I also appreciate the choice to go with the eponymous mossy green for the coaster colours, amplifying the theme and contrasting with the greys, reds and browns of the architecture to create a strong impression.
The coven of witches meeting beneath the towering dive loop is a great touch:
This was a fun entry. I liked the medieval feel to it. I feel like the farm land on the outskirts of the map really sets the stage for everything although I do wish you included a bit more content here. Having said that I'm not sure how quick you built this or what time restrictions you were under. One other thing that I liked a lot on this map was the colour choices throughout.
Foliage and Landscaping: I feel like some more interesting rockwork would have gone a long way on this map. I thought that the foliage was really good throughout the park. I liked your objects choices and I also really enjoyed the entire river rapids ride and the water interactions with everything. This scene with the rocks, foliage, and river rapids is lovely.
Architecture: The architecture was really well formed throughout the entire project but seemed like it was missing a detail sweep. There was some really nice scenes and object use here. This scene below was amazing.
I also really liked the statin building with the chairlift track pieces holding the roof up. I do wish that you used a different roof texture instead of glass though.
Overall: I'm glad I checked this project out! Everything in the park is really nice but I don't think there's enough here for me to rate it above 60%
Lovely nearly NCSO entry. I think the park is nice with lots of great supporting rides. The way the coaster weaves around the castle walls is great. I like how there is a lot of context with the outskirts being minimal but also interesting, with the exception the queue being perhaps too simple. My favorite bits may be the crooked house and haunted house used as scenery without being obnoxious. I'd give it a 70!
I enjoyed this. It is clearly done in a bit less time than some of the other entries but you have all the basics covered, from a good coaster color to a nice contrasting smaller coaster and flat rides. The best thing about it is probably that the green blends into the landscape which keeps the complementary color scheme from being too in your face. I just might steal that idea from you in the future as there's more than one way to use it. Landscaping and foliage is simple but on point. I give it a 70.
Earth and nature meet stone and steel in AJ's medieval-themed map that mixes in some wilder undercurrents.
This was a tough one for me, although it seems i've fallen in a similar place to a lot of others. I did feel like it deserved design, the skill level on show here was pretty high.
