There is 0 proof in scientific terms that marijuana causes schizophrenia or any other mental "disease"/illness. It literally has not been proven to be dangerous in any way (in terms of health).
  • Evil WME%s's Photo
By introspection of the kinds of trips i sometimes get from marihuana i'd definitely say schizophrenia isn't that far off. And there are huge correlations, young people with schizophrenia are generally ones that have done a lot of marihuana.

And Alex Rider, i was being sarcastic. I had been smoking roughly a pack a day for quite a while, including a week in which i've smoked double that. That means roughly a sigaret every 20 minutes, how much more should you smoke? And i didn't get sick, sleeping got harder and the first thing in the morning was always a sigaret. Really, when you start smoking more than a pack you start feeling the dependencies.

Damn though, i just took a little sip of one and it tasted so goooood. I lit one yesterday it made me sick after half of it. Seemingly normal. The first half i actually smoked was like heaven, damn. I need to get rid of the sigarets i have at home, they're such a tease.

I panicked like mad today when i was at a restaurant, after eating damn did i need a smoke. And then just cruising through the city, some polish people. Those moments outside just waiting! The cravings are still there, they'll probably remain there for quite a while though. And some friends of mine teasing me.. (telling me to get sigarets because i had a better chance because the guys i was playing pool with were gay? (which, undoubtably, i had failed to notice..)) And my other friend just stroking his sigarets in front of my eyes, in a sort of offering gesture.. Everyone seems to smoke around me, damn.

and Levis, i doubt there are many people that enjoy smoke in their eyes, i for one never lost the ability to irritate my eyes with my own smoke in a bar. That's why i mainly smoked outside. Well not really, enjoyed smoking outside more :p.

Hm, i used to smoke at a young age, not much really, but enough. Anyway, I quitted at about 16 but quite often get a craving when out and around other smokers, which leads me to smoke a few. No biggy really.

As for the weed thing, I'd agree with WME on the schizophrenia thing. Whilst some are obviously more vulnerable to other, I can definately see the relation between weed/hash/skunk and schizophrenia. But in a way (a "high horse, I'm fine way") I know it won't effect me in that way, so I continue. Though I find I'm not that much a fan of it unless I have taken other things.
  • gir%s's Photo
I'm asthmatic so smoking has never really crossed my mind. Good luck though WME, I hope you can get through the withdrawl and what not. It takes a strong person to admit that their addiction is a problem, and actually try to fix it. :)

Many kids here in Cali smoke pot...I made a commitment to never smoke anything...or even try

My dad quit smoking by smoking one less cigerette a day...after, he ate sunflower seeds instead (kinda like that dude in holes lol)

I don't understand why so many people could be under the impression that alcohol is safer than weed.

People who abuse alcohol beat their wives and get liver disease, stoners sit and stare at things.

Also, while admitedly driving stoned isn't completely as safe as driving sober, driving drunk is a hell of a lot worse.

    ^ truth.

HPG, I'm not even going to bother.

As for the schizophrenia, let me open my textbook... Must last 6 months. Ever had a 6 month high from a joint? Because if you did, I want your dealer's name. And I don't know how many young people you know with schizophrenia, because the disorder generally first appears from age 18-25 in males and 25-mid 30's in females. And while socio-cultural and environmental factors play a large role in TRIGGERING schizophrenia, the causes are largely heriditary.

Sorry, I'm a psych minor and we just learned this shit. Moving on...

Man if you're really having a trip on marijuana, you may want to check if it's coming from a reputable source, because last time I checked weed does not make you trip, at least in the sense I know it...if you want a trip, I suggest you take acid. Just know that side effects include being a pretentious douchebag, incorrect notions about life's truths, and the possibility of losing your mind.

    And listening to bad music.
  • Milo%s's Photo
I have two uncles with schizophrenia and both were essentially born with it though the symptoms stayed fairly light until they hit their late teens. One did acid and other stuff in his early twenties which obviously made it worse. So while I agree that heredity is most likely one of the leading causes of schizophrenia, I believe weed and other drugs certainly can't help and probably increases the symptoms. Then again, this could just be for people in a family that has a history of schizophrenia (obviously mine does) so the common person could hardly aquire schizophrenia from just smoking weed. Everyone is different and has different reactions. (lol I think I've just come full circle)
  • hobbes%s's Photo
Not to mention, if you had symptoms of schizophrenia, you'd most likely not be participating in the world at this level. My uncle has had the disease for as long as I can remember. I believe he developed it his junior year of college.

Schizophrenia is the worst sickness I've seen.
My grandmother passed away to cancer this past year, but she still had her mind.

My uncle can't enjoy life. He can barely live.
I refuse to believe that getting high can do that. I'm sure it has its own consequences, but compared to schizophrenia, I think that most of you have no idea how bad it really is.
  • Milo%s's Photo
Yeah... I've suppose you've had to carry on a conversation with your uncle, hobbes? It's quite a challange. My uncle basically told me that he has to carry like 10 conversations at once and you're just one in the line.... surprisingly he was the one that was worse off but he has bounced back the last few years and actually can function fairly normally. He even has a job helping people that have similiar situations has he did...

But yeah, schizophrenia is terrible and can cripple you for life...

I'm sorry, the term trip to me just means something drug induced. Other than that a friend of mine is able to hallucinate from marihuana, sometimes. Though in all honesty, he's tried about every drug in the line-up so it's probably because of something really fucked up in his mind?

The reputable source thing really isn't such a question here, i usually get weed from, i think, the oldest coffeeshop in amsterdam. Weed just stresses my feelings and brings up a whole new kind of paranoia most of the last times i've smoked it. Most people i tell this to tell me i've smoked too much then, but i smoke quite little most of the time there is just quite a lot of effect. When i do smoke little the effects are ok, the effect was 'ok' last time at least. When i was younger the effect was quite a lot better though, but i do believe it has something to do with the surroundings and my carefree state back then. I remember one laugh-kick that was especially priceless.
  • Metropole%s's Photo
I agree with you Jelly, in that it doesn't make you trip to the extent of ketamin, acid etc., but it kinda gives you that sensation (mainly when you close your eyes) that could be described as a trip.

Hobbes, while I appreciate how bad the case you are talking about is, and I am sorry for that, keep in mind that there are like, 5 (i think) types of schizophrenia, all having different symptoms and varying in severity. I do agree that weed isn't gonna be the soul cause of something like your uncle is suffering from, but I'm pretty sure there is a relation between smoking it and mild schizophrenia. How much of a relation is obviously hard to determine.
  • Evil WME%s's Photo
    Wow. Scary topic.

I kept saying to myself that I've been smoking for two years, but that's really hard to say with this 'evidence' right here.

And 3 years younger me is funny. hihi.

(for the interested peeps, the story continued as: smoke one sigaret a day. friend comes over, 'smoke for one evening.' smoke just at night. realise you didn't want to stop smoking in the first place. smoke more than before.)

Oh damnit. I never tried to quit again..

I do smoke considerably less though. Like, really considerably.. I think five sigarets a day or something?

I will stop smoking the moment I get my first kid, now. (which won't be too soon ;))

I always feel much more under control when smoking rather than drinking.Theres only so much you can smoke before its time to call it a night but theres many a time ive drank to much and cant remember what i should be regretting
  • Midnight Aurora%s's Photo
Blanket statements are fun, right? Yeah, SOME people beat their wives when they're drunk, the same as some people beat their wives when they're not drunk. SOME people get liver disease from drinking, and some get liver disease without drinking. SOME people stare at walls when they're stoned, and some, like my friend, Dan, run around like idiots and talk to every person possible.

The things you do while inebriated depends entirely on your personality, how responsible you are, how much you've had, and how stupid you are. You agree to the risks of the substance you're taking when you take it, and the fact that weed may or may not be safer than alcohol does not imply that weed is safe or without health risks. If you enjoy doing it, then do it. The legality of weed or alcohol hasn't really stopped anyone from partaking, so it really is a bullshit argument.
  • Comet%s's Photo
I don't think that last statement is true at all. The amount of people that smoke weed would go up an insane amount if it was legal, and there is definitely people who don't smoke it because of it's name and link to illegality. As for the whether or not I think it should be legal in the first place, although the thought of going into a coffee shop and ordering a brownie with hash for Sunday afternoon is cool, I don't think America could handle that

Anyway this thread is great, and it's amazing how the site has changed in the past years
I wish some of the older members in this thread would come back. It might just be me but this is way more interesting than the <3333 lolz kthxbai shit nowadays
