okay, so i feel like a total idiot for posting three times in a row.
i wish i was able to delete those last two lol.

but if any of you are interested, today i added some vocals to that song i started recording yesterday.
i think they came out pretty decent.
(no worries, this song wont have any screaming, so those of you that hate that style shouldnt dislike this too much i hope!)

but here it is on my purevolume yet again:

    http://www.purevolume.com/InCities

again, its the last song in the player.
i hope you guys like the progress so far:D

i tried to make the vocals really melodic and catchy this time:]

and againnn sorry for the triple post.
    i still feel idiotic.

    kinda like it ^_^
well thought out, well written, well executed.
    well done :)

but there is one major niggle i have with the whole operation. and i dont know but i think its just me.
my dad always says to me; "keep music live"
and ive agreed with him even before he began saying it.

so i sorta have trouble liking music which is gonna sound epicly different live,
but i make an exception cause youre in:cities :p

is it you singing? cause youre singing wrong :p
no im kidding, but it sounds like your singing from your kinda throught and making every sylable sound like yayayaya like rounded.
no im talking crap, i know what i mean but i cant convey it.
    nevermind. forget it.

i might record and upload somethig tonight for the hell of it.
i have SO much i need to record.

    anyway, well done mate.

    lol i gotcha man.

about the live thing, remember that this isnt actually a band, its just random recordings and songs that i write with my friends:]
and also, for the majority of the song, its only two guitar tracks, rhythm and lead.
the main factor for the progression is the bass, which i have turned up a bit louder than usual so it could carry the song more.

and the singing, yes, its me lol.
i understand what you meant about the rounding of the syllables, but it kindof acant be helped.
for one, i guess its just the way i sing lol, and two, i'm using a crappy old shure mic, so if i push my voice a different way, it wont pick up any highs, only lows and low mids, which makes it extremely hard to eq and get it to sound decent lol.

but thanks sam, i'm glad you like it:]

First off, I thought the new track was pretty phenomenal. Maybe its just because it's right up my alley or whatever, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Josh, I don't know about everyone else, but I personally think you have some GREAT hooks. Notably the lead guitar is great and that verse vocal melody is so catchy I almost don't know what to do with myself. I think for that chorus it'd be perfect to have some more vocals that "soar" over some of the other lyrics that are delivered more quickly (so more backing vocals is what I mean I guess). Still, its brilliant.

As far as the mix goes, I'd like to see the vocals a bit more up front is all. I think you made a good call with pushing up the bass track; it really adds that something I think you were going for. Everything else where it needs to be, I think.

Awesome job, dude. If I'm ever down in FLA, you need another guitarist? ;) aha!

I think some quality reverb would set that lead part off big style, and i agree with Steve that the vocals should be brought to the front. Sounds good though, just thicken the vocal part up. :)
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
wow thanks guys, i'm really really glad you like it so far:]
that really means a lot to me.
i think i should really go back and rerecord some of the vocals and clean them up a bit actually lol.
probably just gonna compress them a lot more, because theyre pretty jumpy at the moment.

but yes, i will definately boost them up and thicken them up a bit with some harmonies and possibly some backing vocals.
i just dont want to add too much to the song and overdo it lol.

concerning as to whether this song can be played live, i recorded myself singing it acoustically just to see if i could nail some of the vocals while playing.
it took a couple tries, but i got a take where i managed to not screw up TOO bad;]
i'm singing it not as loud either, because i think really pushing my voice to hit the notes like i did in the recording would completely drown out my acoustic and sound bad lol

but here it is if you care to see it:]
(please try not to be too critical on me, i know its rough and my voice isnt the greatest!)

Hey that untitled demo was pretty cool, a lot more interesting than Tides. You've still got room for improvement though, which can only be a good thing.

hey guys, idk where else to post this, but i finally got my new layout up on my myspace page:]]

we've got a brand new layout/pictures/name change, and an EP sampler song up!

    www.myspace.com/incitiesfl

we havent been able to change the url just yet, but hopefully soon lol.

my friend justin made the layout from scratch, which is pretty sick.
over the past month or so, he basically just taught himself how to design layouts and use html and such.

hope you guys check it out!

The page is really nice and the names ok, although I prefer simpler names
I really can't get into that music at all though, the screaming is painful to listen to and I can't understand whats being sung

I'm sure you've heard that before though, and I'm guessing you know what you like, hah
  • Camcorder22%s's Photo
Thats really sick, I love ambient sounding stuff like that. My favorites were ATSA sampler, NewUnfinishedDemo, and UntitledDemo. i can't get into the clean neo-hardcore vocals on Awake, but I love the mix of breakdowns and ambient riffs on the other ones. Pretty catchy, and at the same time creates a good atmosphere. Really cool stuff. You might want to disregard my comments on the vocals too as its coming from someone who listens to stuff more along the lines of Isis, Cult of Luna, Rosetta, etc. Man but I better post my stuff soon, once I add some drums.
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
lol ohh you checked out the purevolume page?

i meant for everyone to look at the myspace page lol

the purevolume page is just for like unfinished tracks and demos and such haha
  • Steve%s's Photo
Sounding great, inCities as usual. Dude when we starting our Postal Service ripoff project? Lets get the lead out, here, huh? baha
  • Camcorder22%s's Photo
Yeah I was just commenting on those, I didn't notice the myspace one, probably because it wasn't an actual link but I'll check it out.
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
    lol alright sweet.

and oh yeah, i totally forgot about that steve haha.

if anyone has any existing tracks or whatever, just send them to me, and i'll record some on them. or mix them a bit.
    just message me or whatever
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
    whoops. accidental double post

    Edited by In:Cities, 27 September 2009 - 07:28 PM.

  • zodiac%s's Photo
i could send you an acoustic track to mix, as right now it's in pretty bad condition.
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
    lol go for it man.

any idea what the bpm is if you played it with a click track?
  • zodiac%s's Photo
nope. pretty sure it doesn't even keep a consistent beat during some of the crazy parts, haha. some atmospheric heavy strumming may have lost it a bit.
  • In:Cities%s's Photo
    lol nice man.

you can send it to me if you want, and i'll see what i can do with it.

or you could maybe record another one to a click track maybe?

you never know, i've always found that rerecording things a second time usually helps them to turn out even better:]
  • zodiac%s's Photo
it's the third time i recorded it. :bandit:
