Toon and NW are right on IMO. It all comes down to building for yourself vs. others, i.e. iris. Case and point with SFWoE. IMO, Phatage did not set out to impress anyone with WoE, but more because he wanted to build a very realistic SF park. He obviously accomplished that, and is now getting recognition for it, but his goal was never to get recognition; it was to build something realistic and have fun doing it. That is part of the reason Phatage is now a parkmaker. He finishes projects and he uses his own creativity to build parks. And like NW said, most people are showing very early screens of their parks just to try to "catch Iris's eye" as darkjanus has done. Theres nothing wrong with that, but IMHO, you have to finish what you start in order to maintain your ranking. My biggest pet peeve is people who build like 2 screens worth of park, post them, and then expect people to give them comments on something that will unlikely be finished. Dont make the game a job like deano says, play for fun, build want you want to, and maybe share with others what youve built and get some credit along the way. okay, I'm shutting up now. -

Does making a park about SSX count as creative to you? What I look for when I'm thinking about talent is someone who seems to have an unlimited ceiling of creativity.

It's nice to know that I'm loved.I'm jealous of darkjanus. But I don't hate him. I'd rather see him become parkmaker than someothers (cough Kumba or ride6 :-p).
And yes, built what you want to build and screw what everyone else thinks. Sure if they love it that's great too but it's not nessisary.
I guess posix is doing what he likes to, but I personally reject it. I love his older work; RR in particular but his new and simpler style is a real waste of skill IMO. He could be the next SAC but insted he's choosing to be more like Joe Holland BEFORE Sandia Heights. That gets on my nerves, however he is doing what is right for him and to him.
Personally I don't see DJ as a parkmaker either. Slob and Kracken are my personal favorites at the moment as I think that either of them could be an official parkmaker with one full release (sorry Slob, not the PT, but maybe).
I don't think I'll ever reach parkmaker. I'm too much like OZONE, I want to get there. The only difference being that he has tons more skill than me. Although I'm not trying to get there fast and it's a goal to get there and leave a larger mark on the community. I don't think I'll leave untill NE collapses. Then it'll all be over, but lets not think too much about that right now. It's a long-term goal that may never be forfilled for me, all i can do is try it my way, not your way.
I take influence from others, but I will not build purely what they want, as I have proven many times. I suggest you do the same. Advertise parks if you want advice but don't change everything so people will like you, it's not worth it.

I think almost every RCTer with a park in the bag and a face of determination will get to the parkmaker level someday, even if it takes 'till the end of NE. I, on the other hand, have a long long way to go.Although I'm not trying to get there fast and it's a goal to get there and leave a larger mark on the community.

I haven't been around here that long, but from what I have seen becoming an NE Parkmaker is a great honor, and that is what it should remain.
All these people scrambling for a parkmaker spot need to stop and take a second to look at what they are doing. Are they even having fun with the game anymore? Do they not realize that they are degrading the honor that used to come with the Parkmaker position?
Personally iris, I don't think you should post lists anymore. All that does is throw people into a frenzy about who is in the #1 spot and why they are there. Keep everything regarding who the next parkmakers between you and those you absolutely trust. Give the Parkmaker status its' "mysterious" air back. A little suspense could do some good, and I love suspense. -

That can be a problem though. People who just show a couple really cool screens, cancel the park, make another one with some cool screens, cancel that, etc...and get on the list from doing that are not motivated to finish a park. They see the popularity that has come to them from just showing screens and they probably figure they should stick with what is working. Even though I say all that, I'm not saying those people should not be on the list....for one, the list is just iris's opinion, nothing more, nothing less. I don't really care who is on the list or not on the list....I hope to see completed parks from those people who obviously have talent, because I like to look at parks. I perhaps hurt my own chances by completing full parks because of how long it takes me to finish, but I don't really care, I have fun making my parks. I think people need to view the list the way it is intended, as a list of potentials. When it comes down to it, the right people will become parkmakers.I think Iris just uses the list to attempt to motivate those who he feels to have great skill into finishing something. They won't be given a parkmaker spot till that happens.

People need to remember that I managed to somehow win parkmaker of the year on the basis of...screenshots. And that was voted for by the community. So you can't just criticise iris for favouring people with no real parks. It's everyone.
And maybe, Jacko, it's just that DJ's screens and 'small releases', as you put it, are plain better than everyone elses?
And i'm all in favour of these lists, because it reveals the people who prefer to whine about the rankings rather than spend time improving their own skills. It's very eye-opening. -

Its easy to show a couple of good screens, then start a new park, show a couple more. That is just trying to get attention saying "Look what i can do!!1".
Its pretty sad, that people are making a fun game, into a boring job. Trying to impress people may seem fun for a while, but it will soon get boring for those people. To be a parkmaker, i think it should be someone like phatage, who builds for himself. Or Posix, who DEFINATELY is always building for himself.. People that make rct a chore, would get pressuered into playing rct/rct2 for the community if they were made parkmaker, meaning going from bad, to worse.
I didnt explain that well at all, hope you get what im saying. -

Mad Dawg, you're absolutely right. Thanks for that....there won't be any more lists, it just causes unnecessary controversy and the flaming of people that don't deserve it.I haven't been around here that long, but from what I have seen becoming an NE Parkmaker is a great honor, and that is what it should remain.

Good luck to everyone in becoming a parkmaker. -

What? i'm, not arguing about skill level. I just said it made me jealous that some people can get by without releasing hardly anything.. I mean.. isn't a parkmaker supposed to actually finish parks? This has been an ongoing debate. And maybe, Jacko, it's just that DJ's screens and 'small releases', as you put it, are plain better than everyone elses?
But it doesn't matter now.. ^teh case is closed! -

Um....that explains why he's not a parkmaker...
He's #1 on the list because the screens and releases that he has shown have been better quality then anyone else's. I didnt say he had more, I said they were better. That's all that's important. -

I wonder if I could convince people that Joe Holland was better than Schuessler and SACF even though both have always been more popular. I continue to favor originality over theming skill and maybe that's why I went off in that direction while others have developed more recognizable styles by building the same types of things over and over again. There've been some mentions of Joe Holland in this topic and a couple others which got me thinking. I always liked Joe Holland's parks more than anyone else's because, unlike SACF and Schuessler parks of old, they were never boring. And that got me thinking about why I like the parkmakers I do. That whole overrated/underrated topic could probably be sorted out in a similar way. Some people like theming perfection. All the people who excel at it are underrated to them, and those that don't are overrated. Other people value originality more and the people whose parks are totally original but perhaps not as skillfully themed are underrated and the perfect themers are boring and therefore overrated. That's all it is right? I started out as a Joe Holland fan above all, and in a way, that's still what I am. So I wonder if I could convince you that he is still the best parkmaker ever? Hmm, probably not. -

Looks like Phatage sure enough got his parkmaker spot, I'm guessing the only reason why he's on the retired list, is because his page isn't finished.....

What possible purpose could that have served when Iris already said there would be no more lists?
